Ok, I have the 2270 that I put on sale, and it makes more sense to me now to sale it in parts. I can get good decent money for the heads that on there now, and just keep the shortblock parts, and sale the cam and lifters that are in it now. Len, what sort of combo are you and Jake referring when it comes to a 78.4x90.5? I have a set of Mahle 90 type pistons and barrels, and getting the type 1 pistons and boring the cylinders is not that expensive. I need money, that is why I'm selling my stuff, but I am known to plan ahead and always keep my options. A two liter, EFI and a turbo maybe would not be a bad thing. Keep my informed.

Ephry the stroker 2.0 uses T1 "B" pistons and 1.7 heads with relocated plugs. Minor, but strategic port work, with 40 x 34 valves. I believe Jake posted a dyno graph of the first version of this engine we collaborated on. This is the sort of engine I favor for street purposes as it is EXTREMELY torquey at low revs (IIRC it made 105LbFt. of torque at 1500RPM's!) and sipped the fuel.
You can save a couple hundred bucks by not moving the spark plugs, but fuel milage will suffer and so will torque. None-the-less even with stock 1.7 heads that combo will still be a winner.
I can't stress strongly enough the importance of the cam selection here so make sure you involve Jake in that. He also knows just what piston clearance works right for the bored cylinders, so I would source them through him as well, unless you are confindent in your local guy.

Thanks for the feedback Len. I trust both you and Jake as far as everything goes. BOth you and him have given me great advise in the past.
The 2270 is a beast, but needs to go. I have enough parts for a 2 liter stroker for sure. Sans the camshaft and well designed heads. I think the stroker 2.0 with good EFI and a small turbo will be the ticket for sure. Whether in a Ghia or a Beetle.

Ephry if you think you may turbocharge this power plant I would strongly advise that you move the sparkplug into the 2.0 914 position. Aside form the improved detonation resistance, fuel economy and torque, it moves the plug further away from the cylinder mating surface and puts a lot more material in this area. This will go a long way toward ensuring a reilable cylinder seal. The area around the spark plug can be problematic even on normally aspirated side plug applications. The larger the bore, the more likely a sealing issue will arise. This led to the 5 and 6 stud development. Those are patches. Moving the plug has compeletly eliminated this issue. For larger bores moving the plug and using Nickies is the ultimate solution!
