If you remember my first post in this thread, I stated that the car would not be ready this side of Easter. I started my Easter vacation today, and here's a shot of the car as of now:

I still plan on having it on the road before the show falls next winter...

So I have finally been able to work on the intake runners again, and I started out making a pair for the other side, but soon relized that the shape of the fan shroud is not symmetrical, so I had to reshape things a little.

Each runner is made out of 7 pieces:

and after some welding and grinding they look like this:

This pic show how the runner now follows the contour of the fan shroud:

As opposed to the other side that looks like this:

So the next thing now is to reshape the other pair and finish up the welding and grinding, before I start concentrating on the plenum.

Thanks,

Here's a few shots from yesterday's session.

I managed to finish the runners on both sides, and I also massaged the plenum to fit behind the fan shroud.

I am using a plenum and TB from a 2.1 wbx, however the TB itself will now point upwards. I have had some advice that I should add a "pyramid" where the air comes in, in order to help ditributing the flow, to avoid 90° bends:

Here's a shot from the side:

Now I need to weld up the plenum, make som fastening HW, and then make and mount some bungs for the injectors.

At least there is some progress...

Nice project!

To get more clearance for the trigger wheel, could the wheel itself be machined thinner maybe?

Or machine a small recess into the back of the pulley itself?

This is nice. I may have missed this somewhere, but what is the size on the TB?

hi, where do you get the EDIS kit from? IS it from MS as well?

regarding the crank trigger and VR sensor position , do they sell a kit for this?

good job done.

Thanks.

The EDIS kit incl vr sensor came from ebay, and the triggerwheel I got separately (from www.triggerwheels.com), Not from MS. (MS dont sell anything disrectly anyways)

correct me if i am wrong, but isn't the MS2 can handle the ignition without the EDIS? even the MS1 can do it or am i being confused here?

think they sell the ignition sensor/coil....ignition coil driver

I think you are right, but after searching for some info, I have heard many that claim that having the MS control the ignition based on a trigger signal from the distributor, people have had mixed experiances from this. Basically, the major problem is that there is a nubmer of added sources for in-accuracies, as in the distributor gear, the shaft, and the points/hall sensor itself. Adding all these, you will have a trigger signal "all over the place" is what some people have reported. Since the MS2 readily support the EDIS setup, and the HW is available cheaply, I decided to go for this from the beginning. I might start out using a 009 and conventional ignition, at least since I have to run in the cam the first time the ting is started, but I will go to EDIS as soon as I practically can.

He's not wrong  V3 board has VR conditioning and can be uprated to drive the same coil just like EDIS..

EDIS is no longer supported by the forums, that's how good it is. Standard FI Beetle 1.6 starts/drives ok with EDIS disconnected 8)
1979 Karmann Beetle with 1.8ti T4 (still pastel yellow)
1970 411 Variant (black) daily driver
1964 lil' window Beetle (soon to be black)

OK, it is a while a go that I was on the MS forum, and I have basically just been sourcing all the parts on a list I made last fall :-)

I will dig into this, and Maybe I dont need the EDIS module, but I need the VR sensor and the coil pack, and I got the entire EDIS kit (vr sensor, EDIS module coil pack and wires) for about $70 if I remember correctly, so whether I use the EDIS module or not will not make too much difference. A much cleaner install though...

Thanks again for all your valuable input to this project
