What did you do to your turbo today?

Mario, that is sexy. Where did you get it coated? Mine's Jet-Hot. It's also supposed to be good to 2000, yet the header blanket I put on there is flaking apart from the heat.

As for me, the engine is back in the car with the new welded fan. Unfortunately, it's still leaking from the flywheel end ( a slow drip every 2 minutes or so, but still driving me crazy), I have reason to belive it's the cam plug because I've replaced the main seal twice. Maybe I'll rip it out again next oil change. I still haven't done any more tuning because my laptop's still crashed. It builds boost like nobody's business though. Right now I'm trying to scrape up enough cash to buy a weatherstripping kit, because the car's still in pieces! I even tape the doors shut on test runs

Also, I found a totally sweet horn button for my Grant wheel. I found it in a random box of junk from the 80's. It has a tiny red castle logo with the words "WOLFSBURG EDITION" on it, and it fits perfectly. I also got my shifter working well. I swapped the T-handle for a hurst knob, I also installed a red button in it to toggle the boost controller. It's pretty cool, yet not too "Fast and Furious".

After putting every thing back together I went to fire it up and it started like a Fuel injected engine.

Instant fire. It has sat for 3 or 4 weeks? I think it is happy for the new face lift .

Thanks guys, it was done local at Performance Coatings. They are the ones that did my motor internals also. They do a great job.

Tory how long does it take you t pull everything back out?

I don't think it has ever started like that before. 6 hours later I tried again. Same thing. I may be better off not pumping the gas before I try to start it from now on. My next step is EFI. I have many of the parts but not in a hurry to dick with things when they work well.

today I replaced my blow off valve (old one popped the diaphragm), retuned part throttle a little bit due to the new blow off valve being tighter and creating a mild lean spot on tip in at light cruise... Replaced one of those goofy VW crimp exhaust gaskets that all the graphite stuff fried out of over the last few days, and turned up the boost a little from 8 pounds to about 10. I've been driving my bug to work 100 miles per day for the last few weeks. I usually take the laptop with me to tune on the megasquirt. It's running as good as any factory injected car now.

Tory how long does it take you t pull everything back out?

The removable apron makes it easier... I still have to remove the turbo, boost piping to the throttle body, intercooler, water, oil, and fuel lines, electrical connections (quick disconnect), O2 sensor, muffler, yikes! Usually it takes about an hour.

What else did your coaters do? Piston tops and chambers?

I did ceramic on the tops of the pistons and ther MOS film on the sides and under the skirt, wrist pins, all the bearings, lifters and cam.
