Cheers buddy needs to go back in the car and off to mot!
Who do you insure yours with? Used to use Adrian Flux but would like to try some others first.

From my experience you wanna turn the 32 Dis 180 degrees around, this will make changing idle jets and adjusting mixture way easier. As it is they're facing the fan shroud & require carb removal to change, which WILL get on your nerves!1938vw wrote:finished my adapter today no pics though, didnt want to stop!
got one before it was finished.
i also mocked up with the whole set up.
the hoses and pipe that i used here cost me £5 from a local scrap yard, to do it in silicon and ally from ebay was more in the region of £90!
spent a few hours of fiddling cutting up the existing linkage and making a new one. very frustrating i've got so close but i cant seem to get it to use WOT!![]()
whats the point if you cant use WOT!!??
Obviously this makes the standard renault 'lobster' plenum useless as it will point the other way. Not a problem, cut a flange that matches the plastic one on the lobster and weld a 90 degree piece of 2" tube & make your own, this will also look much neater!
My linkage was simple - use the existing one! I just had a cable adaptor machined, with the carb spun 180 degrees this will be obvious!
Just my two penneth but to be fair I have had loads of experience with this kind of setup & with all due respect, thats why my Solex was sold to fund EFI! That said, it will work & will be fun, but seriously spin the carb 180 degrees as you WILL have a lot of tinkering to do!
As a jetting guide a 47 idle & 120/125 main will put you in the ball park with your engine specs. I have also built a GT15 setup & the turbo is damn near as perfect as you will get! You should be hanging on by 4,500 rpm, especially in a bug! Just keep things as fat as you can, an a/f ratio gauge will be of some help with this.
Good luck & regards!
Gill.

Sorry, it seems I should have read on! It's just a path I've trod before & wanna save you the hassle I had!
How are you finding the DPH manifold hoses? I had the same ones & mine split after 100 miles causing my motor to run dangerously lean, the best ones are the upgraded orange silicone stock-style ones from GSF!

Seem fine so far but not had it in the car yet! Will the stock upgrades handle the heat?

I insured mine through Volksworld Insurance (Herts Insurance). I didn't get a quote from Flux but 4 other companies wouldn't insure me because there were too many modifications.1938vw wrote:Cheers buddy needs to go back in the car and off to mot!

Last time I spoke to flux the girl who specialises in the beetles actually has one! Made life so much easier and she knew all the mods I had. I'll try the volksworld one too cheers

Re: my stock 1600 dp turbo build!
Picked up my Renault 5 carb today. Also have a turbo off a 1.7 Astra tdi. Got an inter cooler and dump valve on the way all for less than £125 delivered.
Going to be a true junkyard set up on possibly an 1835. As those are the bits my mate has lying round to bolt in a full flowed and balanced case.
Idea is to do it as cheaply as possible just for an experiment.
Watching this with interest as we won't be starting for awhile and keen to learn what I can.
On that front turbomania arrived today so will start reading!
Would you put a engle 110 in over standard if you had it lying around?
Cheers

Hello buddy nice to see a new guy taking interest! Firstly welcome. Second IMO, good combo choice.
Cams unfortunately are far beyond my knowledge. I'd highly recommend taking as much time as possible to read through the sticky threads, there's cam choice advice, timing, c/r etc all very good reading.
Couple of questions:
Are you looking for lots of power or daily driver?
Are you in the uk?
Also i wonder if the DIS 32 will flow enough air for an 1825? Although the r5 guys say that they can do 300BHP from a 1400 r5 engine! There's a great 1600 200BHP thread on here defo read that, may be worth keeping it 1600 (assuming its 1600)

Re: my stock 1600 dp turbo build!
Hi mate,
Thanks for the reply.
At the moment it's mainly an experiment, it may get dropped in his bay, may get dropped in the misses beetle or more likely try and buy a buggy for the track only.
I'm oop north near Huddersfield so defo uk based.
With regard 1600/1835 choice I think we may play with both. As I said pure budget build just to get some experience of air cooled turbos.
Build it up play with it the. Tear it down and go again lol I'm relying on my mate for knowledge as mine is very limited as only had an air cooled for 6 months! And thats been off the road for 3 getting a full new engine (2007) gearbox suspention and brakes.
The worst point being I bought it for the gf and now crave my own lol
Anyway enough derailing, I will keep watching and learning in the background for now.
Cheers

Re: my stock 1600 dp turbo build!
On Saturday I set about putting the engine back in the car. I was concerned that the adapter from t3 to gt15 I had made, when all fitted up would fit under the upron, I was wrong it did, and with nearly and inch spare even with the actuator on!

No I have to sort out: oil filter, oil cooler, oil termostatic bypass, fuel lines (flow and return), fuel pump and filter location, coil location, exhaust, rev counter, boost and afr gauges, throttle cable and more than likely some other stuff I have forgotten!

Yeah they will handle the heat, I found my engine didn't really run that much hotter, but then again I had a larger turbo fitted so wasn't always on boost.1938vw wrote:Seem fine so far but not had it in the car yet! Will the stock upgrades handle the heat?
I covered over 3k on my engine with them fitted, the DPH hoses actually perished after 100 miles & my a/f ratio guage went off the scale lean!
DPH silicone hoses are not designed to carry petrol or fuel/air vapour... check the link below...

You will find you have to sacrifice form for function!

Oh crap, I didn't know that! I'll have to keep an eye on my afr make sure it doesn't lean out.

I'd swap them before you got to that stage to be honest!1938vw wrote:Oh crap, I didn't know that! I'll have to keep an eye on my afr make sure it doesn't lean out.
