the top will be a dark tan....the back seat area will have a fiberglass tonneau cover/don

Don its been a while. You have definitely surpassed me and my Ghia. It still hasn't seen paint. Its been put on the back burner as they say. Hopefully we can lay paint before this month is over. If that happens I can probably play catch up. Looks really good by the way. I as well went wit the EZ Wiring harness, so hopefully I can ask questions whenever I get to that part of the build.

I may have to nominate him for sainthood, if only for his patience, I would have wanted to set it on fire about half way through.

Its tough to make
digital look retro, but Google for "steampunk" and it may provide some ideas.
The biggest visuals of the rest of the dash is "round" chrome bezels and buttons, corners of glovebox etc.
Sticking anything "square" in there, esp in a high contrast color (like black on cream), will not be eye pleasing.
If Pioneer made a ~white (or perhaps even red) trimmed stereo it
could blend right into the dash.
Perhaps start by Photoshopping/Gimping the surround for the stereo to red in the above photo (match dash pad) or chrome and see how it looks.
Do you have experience with Pioneer stereos? Would you recommend it?
Sorry for being off topic. Maybe you can help me. I'm on a quest for a new stereo. I've been reading reviews about Pioneer stereos but they are useless hype. It's beyond me why people are doing it.
This head unit landed on my short list AVH-2550NEX. From all the blogs that I've read one stood out. The blogger was hyper critical about Pioneer and put me on the fence. The
Pioneer stereo review was OK until I've reached the shortcomings section.
How tiny are those buttons? What about the slow startup? How bad is it?
Any pointers?

Pioneer radios used to be quite excellent, but I cant comment on the newer stuff.
These days I have Sony BT WF1000MX3 headphones and my phone is my tunes source (including FM radio)
Type 3s lacks a spot in the dash for a radio, it always had to go under dash or in a console or such...
Some sort of retro-look but BT controllable setup with phone integration would probably be the ticket these days.
That or hidden/headless,
Waze etc helps a lot., so a good phone mount/dock would be a good plan.
