To be fare its the biggest cold air housing that was compatible with my old one.
So not really a big jump up on the cold size. Cold wheel is about 25% bigger.
The cold housing is a better one with a 3" inlet ,the old one was a 2" inlet. Also has a proper threaded boost fitting for the wastegate.
Its got a V CLAMP fitting on the out pipe ,are there universal clamps and flanges to buy ,like just measure the size and go from there.
He has fixed the oil leaking into the exhaust so that's good
I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
What determines the flow through the cold side is the size of the compressor wheel and the size of the inlet and outlet from the housing.
A 3” inlet is a big increase from the original 2”..... and is probably needed if it’s feeding a 25% larger compressor wheel.
I hope so Dan. Nearly ready to test it, just gotta weld a good looking bracket to the cold side so I can fit the actuator. I've also raised the turbo up high in line with the top pully ,this has removed 10 inch of boost pipe length and looks way neater.
Got it running today, not tested tho. I did notice the AFR gauge has gone from a 13 at idle to a 16, so the 25% extra size in the cold side wheel IS putting more air in from the get go. So an increase in idle jet will be needed, possibly a main jet increase to.
I need an air filter that's got a 76mm inlet with a 100mm neck but cant seam to find 1. prolly gunna have to weld a 100mm pipe on to it. BOO.

Well Wally and Kalle both used Precision turbos. Maybe start there? I don't know you have checked them yet, but you are looking at $1100-$1800 for one of those. Maybe that will help your decision making?!
Correction; I do believe that Wally have never used a Precision turbo. They are usually way to big for him I used Precision and so does Niklas on his now 8 second super mouse engine.

Well ,I tested my new turbo today. not driven it since last sept.
I did some enlarging of the size of the mod rings, I'm at 34 mm from 32 I thought this would have leaned it out some ,but still showing a 10 on the AFR gauge. I have tested without rings and there's no enrichment when I do this, they must be real sensitive to size, I'll down size the mains and re test it. Boost is 1 bar with a flat foot.
The only changes made were
Remove the resonator ,fitted a stubby 90 in its place.
Enlarge mod rings
bigger turbo.
I don't think type 4 motors like free flowing exhausts. I might re fit the resonator . I got pops out the exhaust for no real reason. Didn't do it before I changed it
Also I think bumpy roads are messing with the carb floats.
How does yours/others AFR gauge reading look, I get a 12 at wide open only. In between boost starting and wide open its like 15 down to 12 ya no. I think increasing the size of the mod ring's has definitely lessened the fuel enrichment signal. Before ,the AFR went straight to rich real quick.
The standard mod size might have been wrong making it rich too quick
Now it might be right.
Hence how quick is the fuel enrichment on your gauge.
Yeah that's not going to work. Once I'm into boost I like to start seeing 12's. I'd rather see it rich and start trying to figure out how to lean it where it needs to be rather than the other way around.
