Put a brake bias on the car and adjust to the tires.

I can't imagine a modern tire around a 175-185 width causing any issues with braking vs. the 205 we're comparing to. That would depend more on tire compound and age/wear. Speedo changes, yes, but how much?
I see plenty of tires available in a 185/65-15, crazy since a 185/70 seems NLA! The 185/65 is 1" shorter in diameter vs 205/65, that's 96% of the 205. By my calculations that's reading fast a little less than 3mph @ 70mph (it'll look better for your top speed runs!). VW's always look better with a little forward rake, at least in my book. Like wheel choices, what looks most appealing to you is what really matters! Happy Holidays!

175/55r15 is 9mph off. Brain auto calculates...

As I said, I do like the stock chromie look. Why I bought these Mangles for the KG. My only problem with them is they are really too narrow and the short axle conversion means I could use a deep-dish version out back. That and the chrome is starting to pit.

These guys https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds ... id=1470031 can make steel wheels to my specification for both ends of the car so I can have a wider version of the Mangle with the same offset for the front and a deep dish for the back.

In the meantime I can just keep using the Mangles. Simple.

Add to that, if you have a swing axle for example, you can get wheel tuck which reduces the amount of tire to help you stop hard.

Tire size, width, composition (age) and the design radial vs. the old style of tire design [I forget it's name]) tread design, material, etc. for example, all can affect the stopping and cornering ability of the vehicle.

Thanks Max. Had a brain fart and even tried to look it up but got no answers from the web discussions. 'tis part of old age so prepare!

I did have an interesting discussion with a tire company a few years ago about bias vs. radial tires. Trailers are usually Bias while cars are mostly radial now days. https://www.tirebuyer.com/education/tra ... l-bias-ply

Attempted first fire today.

Good news / bad news.

The good news is that the fuel system is tight and right. No leaks and correct pressure.

And the engine starts after a fashion. Pretty sure I have something going on with the crank trigger. Got to study the logs a bit.

Well, snow where I live is unusual. So, for Max, I snapped a pic of one of my spare Lemans wheels😆

Haha! Touché!

I got rid of a bunch of stuff a few years ago so all my stuff can be stored inside with room for me to work. A friend runs a VW parts yard not too far from me got all my overflow. Every so often I've had to get something back from him, but I got nothing sitting out in the snow.

Anyways, I got some time in the barn yesterday. Found that I had not connected the MAP vacuum hose to the intake. Spotted that in the logs.

But I still have something going on with the trigger-wheel. It's the same physical FR sensor and trigger wheel as before (in the squareback) but of course I may have messed something up in the wiring.

So I've taken some tooth-logs just cranking (FP off) and also with the pump on trying to start. The example tooth logs over on msextra appear to have moved. Hopefully someone over there can help me out with that.

Progress. Must have had one or more plugs wires loose or miss-routed.

Still dropping sync all over the place. To bee continued.

Sounds like a top fueler idle Max! Maybe that 350* duration cam installed during the last rebuild? :-D
Yea, something's amiss somewhere. Congrats on getting her to run though!

Looks I'll be reversing the VR sensor wires tomorrow.

I love the internet!

So reversing the sensor wires did clean up the ignition. Still runs like crap. The fuel map I have was for a different cam and exhaust. Plus the stock throttle body is pretty worn out and leaks air. By rights it should be rebushed but I know of no kit available to do it.

I did establish that the 02 sensor is working and ego was consistently adding fuel to bring the AFR to target. I also updated the megasquirt firmware.

I'll need to start over with the fuel map and will probably add a little fuel pressure to start with.
