Update
Damn!! TIGwelding is hard, I must say I admire people that can do pretty welds
Anyway! I went to the garage tonight
This is how my workspace looks like now, the light is a big improvement
And this is my new TIG welder.. nothing fancy
I did some more practice welding pipes that didn't have perfect ends so I had to use a filling rod.. this made it harder to say the least
After that I tried to figure out how to weld pipe to a thick flange.. this wasn't easy at all...
This is the first atempt at a real flange after som practice on scrap metal. I really had to turn the power up!
Ofcourse I rushed and started on the really deal, the collector to the turbo.. maybe I do some more practice and do this all over again, because I'm not very happy about the outcome!!
This is a closeup, I had to use alot of filler because the gaps became kinda big... this is because the hole in the turbo is a very strange shape.. you can see it earlier in this thread (and get a hint in the picture)
After that I made one 2 in 1 part..
Leaves a nice clean cut
The collector tacked up with the MIG...
To give you guys a hint

The pipes will go under the driveshafts!

Jonas how did you clean the inside of your chassis to get it ready for paint.

Paint bomb
Hi Jonas, that is close to amazing progress for a weekends work. You teach yourself well
It's time you used some stainless, don't you think? Or is Swedish mild steel really
that superior? I'm fealing a little jealous

That is fine welding, I'm sure. It looks like a DC welder, Is that what Jonas N used on his test head?

'Want 1 of dem!
My #3 primary pipe runs under a drive shaft.. good use of space

Hehe, I really don't feel the need to paint inside, but a paint bomb would work
Thanks, I always practice what Jonas N says.. "how hard could it be?"
I don't know if I want to use stainless.. not for now anyway.. mild steel is very easy to work with (and not that expensive

)
Yes it's DC-welder.. not for aluminum
Jonas used a MMA-welder.. something like this

so this is not really an update.. just showing I'm still here
I have been playing a little in pro/Engineering on my free time and tonight I made this
This is the basic idéa of how the layout will be for my new header.
This is not the correct dimensions and proportions though
Still learing

That looks much like the intake manifold I'm thinking about...
Looks like a set of 914 HX tubes would get you 90% there...
Question:
When you pack tubing with sand to bend it, use dry sand? (makes sense?)
Wet sand packs better though...

Wow I like that design, very smooth and graceful. will that take up alot of room behind the rear seat?

Yes.. but my first drawing is waaaaaayyy out
I buy prebend tubing.. Jbends with big radius,.. that's the plan anyway

Thanks, that's the whole idéa
The turbo sit's ontop of the gearbox.. it will take alot of place, I'm sure
Update
Today I called Jonas N and was very enjoying... Because I asked alooooootttt of measurements of the engine and gearbox.. this is the result.. a very "raw" engine and the idéa in a more true proportion

The gearboxes that bolt to these motors have the annoying habit of using drive shafts sticking out of them
Did you thought about the space where these axles are with the positioning of the primaries?

yes.. there was a gearbox hocked up during modelling
It is supposed to "snake" around the axles
I don't know if the measurements was all correct though!
Anyway.. this is just the idéa.. not a exact drawing

New to this forum and just came across this. Have not read all 40 pages. However I'm glad to see another DIY type IV turbo guy.
I have a big build going on as well. I am doing a 1.7L with twin 13B's and twin water/air intercoolers.
Here is some of my build:
Intercooler cores
turbos and one intercooler being mocked with end tanks.
1 intercooler being pressure tested before I weld on the water side tanks.
Keep it up.

Where are you?
I need some water jackets welded on an Eclipse IC...
