Do you have the barrel cooler I have? Those things are pretty cool, and also pretty expensive.

but be aware of heatsoak when mounted in the engine bay
insulated my Water-intercooler and got a 20°C drop after insulating :P
Interesting that you say that... I am considering moving the intercooler to the package tray, not for temperature reasons, but so that I can fully close the decklid to keep rain and idiots out(standoffs). Be interesting to see a temp drop too...

on my setup(WBX engine in Squareback) it get's very hot in the engine compartment.
and the IC is mounted close to the turbo

i do not think the temp is so high in the engine compartment on a aircooled beetle hideawaysetup though.
so it's all back to the induvidual setup :)

this is how we did for a project of a friend and mine.
i think its alot of intercooling for a 1200cc turbo...hope so.
the radiator+fan is next to the gearbox in a vertical position.

"just" the parts that lying around. i am not a friend of the porsche fan but with it we just needed to change the intercooler and have a very short way. in my old build the intercooler was behind the firewall.
goal in first stage is 150HP...then we want the 200hp with a 1200cc.
the heads have more modern chamber and 35,5mm/32mm valves half of the chamber is in the wiseco pistons. stock cam with 1.3:1 rockers so there is way more cam in it if we need.E85 fuel.engine is 20mm smaller than a stock 1200cc.
we will see it's a fun projekt...downsizing for mother nature ;)

intercooler goes back behind the firewall , at the end the only turbothing that will visible via open the decklid is the rubber hose that come out of the firewall to the throttlebody. another intercooler will come in summer i bet. but first we test this thing.
water/icetank is done a week ago. i can't wait to fire this thing hopefulle on next weekend.
