That's an early aircooled vanagon alt and heater fan.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

I wonder how hard it would be to mount a more common alt there, like a gm one? I'll have to find some pics of how it mounts.
What about a 914 alternator?
How much air does that blower move? Enough to cool 4 cyls? lol

There's plenty of room, but the pulley must be close in, depth is an issue, all dependent on how you set up your pulleys.
A CS130D as I am running now on a Vanagon shroud is a little deeper than the Vanagon alt.
You could of course set up an alternator Corvair style as one of the direction-change pulleys, it would probably need to go on the 1-2 side if you wanted to run a distributor or trigger setup in that location.
That blower puts out plenty of air for cabin heat in a Vanagon, which is saying something.

Re: Horizontal T4 Cooling Fan Shroud Info
I'll have to see if the guy has an alternator mount I can get too, to see how much effort it would be to fit. I plant to run a trigger, and distributor for a cam sensor.
Haha that's what I was thinking, there's a lot of cabin space in a vanagon. The blower fan looks like a squirrel cage type, like a 914 fan?
I know it's highly unlikely that it will move enough air, but it wouldn't be too hard to direct the air from that fan to hit each cylinder if it could. Wishful thinking

Moves a lot more air than the little bay bus or 914 heat assist blowers...
Remember, at 4200-4500 RPM cruise that's probably pushing 8-9K, engine driven.

It's an idea, I don't know if I'm brave enough to try it lol.

Well I got a few fans, a fan mount, pulley and stock corvair shroud. After looking at it, it would be easier to just buy a universal hub and spindle for the fan.

Re: Horizontal T4 Cooling Fan Shroud Info
Has anyone gone to the effort of using a Type 4 fan horizontally? Of course a mount/bearing/shaft would be needed aling with suitable ducting. Just thinking about using what i have to hand...

Re: Horizontal T4 Cooling Fan Shroud Info
The forward curve type fan a T4 uses is incredibly picky about the housing it lives in.
It will work to some extent, but the devils in the details.
It also suffers from being heavy, so it adds to the probability of tossing a belt.
