Here's the stupidest thing I've done in a while. I had taken apart and reinstalled my Type 1 front end so many times, I couldn't figure out why my Thing spindles wouldn't go on the arms. What's wrong with this pic?



Anyway, about an hour later, I have it on four wheels. It measures 17" from the ground to the bottom of the beam with no weight on it.



Gotta love EMPI. I didn't buy these, no telling when they were manufactured, but I had a 5 pack of EMPI lug bolts lying around that I decided to use to be able to roll the car around. 1 of them wasn't actually threaded. No kidding...this bolt's "thread" is a stack of rings. For a minute I thought the threads in my drum were stripped. I finally ran a magic marker around one of the threads and ended up in the same spot. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!



Next up on the list:
1) Paint bottom of pans
2) Install body and cage
3) Transaxle mount
4) Buy Subaru....

Your Thing BJs should point down. Does that sound bad?

The balljoints only point down if the arms are installed correctly.

I got the bottom of the pan done today. Was looking for some black paint when I ran across this stuff in my garage. I thought it'd be perfect for a little noise reduction as well as corrosion protection and durability.



I think this stuff is about 10 years old, so I was leary that it would even come out of the can, but it did! I'm really pleased with the results. Tip: If you want it to look really nice, lay it down on a horizontal surface. We'll see how it holds up. I powerwashed, primed and then laid down the rubber undercoating. It's still wet in this pic, and you can see the runs. If anyone ever sees the bottom of this car how it looks will be the least of my concerns!

That's the same exact stuff I've been using for 10 years or more, painted the rockers on my van, misc patch ups on my jeep, and now on the inner fender wells of my baja. Seems to work well and easy to patch without too much prep. Lookin good!
