Is it OK to use a formed collector for turbo instead of a merged collector ?

Ordered flanges and j-tubes from SPD today so it will be a week before header construction kicks off. All opinions on turbo location are very welcome at this point.

Just keep the tubing as short as possible, Longer radii flow better than shorter and just be sure you can pop off valve covers etc. make sure stuff is serviceable, that is the most important! If you are not running an intercooler below the tin would be best to keep as much heat out of the engine compartment as possible. Also make sure the charge piping is in a good location and won't hit stuff. I got a little hasty myself. I should have thought about mine a little bit more before finalizing it. The turbo intake is real close the the head and limits future upgrades..

Yeah that too, make sure you have as many parts on the motor as you can. That way you won't forget about it ;)

Looks great! Where are you planning to drain the turbo to?

I was thinking I would drill and tap the sump.

Good idea - I have that exact same sump and I drilled it on the top of the sump and had to mill off a part of one of the raised wings on top to make room for the 1/2"npt fitting. I have a -10an drain connected to it and its working great.

I used to have the CB thinline sump with a -8an drain which worked fine for my old T3 turbo but when I change to a Turbonetics T04E, the -8 drain couldn't keep up.

Dang, always a hold up.

I ordered 4" radius when i wanted 4" diameter centreline j-tubes.

turbo is going in front of pulley, compressor to the left and the wastegate from Turbosmart says to have it 100mm from the heat so I am going to mount it to the left under the compressor instead of the turbine. Pictures in week.

Pictures are good :) Did you already get your correct mandrels sorted?

SPD is the only place I can get the size I wanted. Im getting j-tubes with 2.5 centreline radius next week, but in the mean time we are fabricating a new brace so tubes can run under the brace but not below the sump so I have clearance because its dropped in the back now. Noone in Canada has a 2.5 radius j-tube.

I know Panel lives a ways from you, he lives in Victoria. But you guys should hook up for turbo and injection pointers!

Yes, I will talk with Panel at the GCVWS. I did last year , but he won't remember me. I have seen his bus around for the last 20 years. Used to see it picking up highschool girls before he owned it I think.

Check out my turbo header progress.
