I tried to get a better look so I tried to do some editing of the pix. Once you said "straps" the black things on what I thought were diagonals or something now look like straps.

You have a long way to go and a lot of work on this... I hope you don't spend as much time on ours as I have on my black buggy .

It is going to be interesting to see the final project when it is finished. Keep up with the posts please.

Yep.....a long way to go.

I keep jumping from one part to another and not finishing things. I guess it comes from not having the time and just working with whatever fits the available time.

Worked towards it a little while this morn.

Forming up the perimeter tub mount.

Made some mounts to attach the tube frame to the front beam.

And painted some parts.

And the body set closer still to the final position.

What engine is that again ?

How did you make your side rails?

That is a jdm Mazda 2.5L klde Millennia engine.

Reading the history of it and of course you never know how correct the internet is.
Mazda originally contracted Porsche to engineer the engine.
Mazda used it in the mx6 sporty car.
Of course ford and Mazda were sleeping together.....so the ford probe was the same car mechanically as the mx6. So the engine was used in ford's. Eventually ford got full rights to it and then increased it's displacement to 3L and it got a cast crank and became a family car engine.

So this one is a Japanese spec Mazda from mid 90's.
2.5l
4 valve per.
Double overhead cam
8000 rpm engine.....needs better rods to go higher.
Approaching 200hp

Add the itb's, headers and tuning it is said to reach 225-230.

Cut from 12g sheet steel and bent to shape.

Or do you mean shape?

It is a Z bend.

Shape. The forming is important but I was curious on how you made the bends to match the VW shape. It looks like cut and weld. My body lift (does the same thing) was done by Kerfing then welding once the shape match the shape of the floor panels.

So what's with the Vw valve cover then ?

I have no pan to have to match the shape of.

My little body never did fit a vw pan very well.
Someone had done some ugly patch work add on to the body to get it to mount.

I cut all that off and the body flange had a much sharper angle to it than what a vw pan has.
So instead of a gentle bend my channels have a single point corner.

That means a single triangle cut out then bent and welded.

Now remember these channels are NOT the main structure of my chassis.
My primary structure will be the tubing I have yet to do.

Shhhh......it is a disguise.
Besides.......it is in a VW and has some german heritage.

But for real though.
I am making an early 60's psuedo lemans racer......a euro racer of sorts.....that never existed.
The more people confused the better.
