I finally enclosed the rear engine compartment..... It took some work but I found a solution that clears my air cleaner and will allow access to the complete top of engine...... :D My Carb sits high since I have the Torker II intake on it..... I had to compensate by raising the rear deck hatch......

Image

I will build a wooden surround that will level the rear deck area so my bed will be level..... The hatch has 2 latches to secure it and will have a rubber seal to keep things quiet and vapor free........ I will install sound deadening material ( Dynamat) to the lid and underside as well as the top side....... 8)

More tomorrow........
Peace,

Paul

Cool stuff Paul, looks awesome. I like the black fresh air grille to compliment the rad grille.

We're alloting money to the camper this spring to get it up and running. now that the family is behind it ( I want to take the kids camping beofre they don't want to hang aorund us anymore ) so hopefully I can make it happen this summer.

You mentioned master Series. I've never used it. We don't have a distributor for it around TOronto that I know of. I've used Por 15 in the past. Are you doing the whole undercarriage or bits and pieces ? I am planning to media blast the undersarriage and the few bits of bad here and there and coat it up. You spraying or brushing ?

Yep, lookin' real good! Now I'm really embarassed that my 2.8L isn't yet ready. Spring is probably a good goal here also.

Have to agree.. the more I see pix of the Brazilian/Mexican grille, the more I like it. Ditto on the black vents.

I found it on Ebay....... There are Por-15 dealers on there as well. Master Series is said to be better than Por's-15 but mostly it cost less.......

I will be brushing mine... I really don't have any undercarrage rust, just some places on the cargo floor and drivers floor from water sitting in carpet........This van was very dry(no rust except for the battery tray....... It looks like when it was new someone undercoated the whole thing...... really solid.
I plan to coat the complete floor and rear engine area.......... You can get this stuff in white , black and silver........

Peace,

Paul

This weekend i totally stripped
the interior, Headliner and all rubber. I also did a lot of welding......
fabricating each of the body panels i needed as i went along....... Then i
painted the complete inside with Master Series silver rust sealer........
This sucker should be water proof now.....LOL. ....... Today i scrubbed the
rain gutters and coated them.................I have a little more welding
repairs to finish then i'll be finishing the body work..............I have
so many ideas for this bus that i get overloaded thinking about it.........
As you can see i'm awake right now...... I laid down 2 hours ago and never
went to sleep.......... I'm building the bus in my head........LOL :D

Also built this removable rear apron......... pretty easy to do.... 8)

throw out bearing

Post by jjenibun »

I just picked up my adapter plate kit from kennedy. I got the kit for a 1969 vw to a chev 2.5l. I can't figure out where the throwout bering is supposed to be installed. Every thing else is self-explanitory. Thanks in advance. I am in the stage of installing the rad. I asked you on page 4, what you thought about the process. But you never replied.

Sorry,

The throwout bearing is just like stock, it goes on the tranny.......... all clutch components are stock..................your rad mounting may work........remember you will need to gain access to the rad for servicing ...... also you need to add in a overflow tank...........

Carburator

Post by jjenibun »

Well, the engine has been out of the truck for about a week now. The motor is a 1989 chevy s-10 2.5l, 4cyl engine. You said earlier that there were some carbed 2.5l UPS trucks out there. Well because of the ten year window gap for new parts, I can't find an intake manifild or the carb for this. My only hope is to find it at the dealership or the salvage yards. And these days the salvage yards do not keep out dated material (1989), like they used to. Do you think that a 1.9l or 2.0l intake manifolds would fit on a 2.5l. Are the Currently making the 2.5l today. I also noticed that they make a holley and edelbrock carbs for the 1.9l and the2.0l, but not for the 2.5l. I really want to get rid of the headache of all of those FI wires that I am facing with right now. Thanks Jerod

cooling hoses

Post by jjenibun »

where did you get the yellow and black hoses from. Did you run long pipes to the front, since your rad is in the front. I need to find some hose that will bend a little. Thanks for your help. Jerod.

Hey Jerod, Sorry , Haven't been online in a while..... Been working on the bus a lot.... The hose is a heavy industrial hose with steel reinforments. I purchased it at a local place that makes high pressure hydraulic hoses and stuff. I ran 2 pipes down the right side of the bus in the oval holes in the frame rails.....You'll have to cut a couple of holes also......... .. The pipes are actually the top rail from a chain link fence... about 1.25" pipe............. seemed to work well as a friend has the same in his van with 3TC toyota engine conversion.....Hope this helps...

You can see the pipes in this pic...
Image

P.S. Make sure if you use the fence pipe that you weld a bead around the circumference of the pipe ends...... This gives a lip to prevent the hose from slipping off the pipe when clamped on..... I used RTV to help seal the rubber hose also...... :)

Paul

Latest update....... ........ I'm still working on smoothing the body for paint...... I think i'm almost ready...... All of my lower sides are completed except for the nose which still needs some work getting right.....

I'm still having some back problems so that slows my progress down on most days.......

I will be painting 2 stage Red and white.... I can't wait......

I have most of the interior in my spare bedroom waiting for the paint to be completed........ Everything waits on the paint......

Maybe 2 weeks.......................... :?
