you got a baja? lets see an intro thread!
give a man a watch and he'll allways know what time it is. give him two and he can never be sure again.

The more the merrier! If you get down this way, stop by. VWs are definitely not a rare sight in my yard. Saturday should be interesting, I think the total will be 7 including the party pickle.
I picked up a sandblaster last weekend, Chrissy's bay will be the test subject but this car is what I was thinking about when I got it. It is now sitting outside my kitchen window in Bug Row, I see it every morning and helps keep me thinking about it while I finish up other stuff.

If anyone is interested, I will most likely be loading this puppy up on a trailer and bringing it to Transporterfest next month. It doesn't look like I'm going to have my Westy on the road by then so I figure this might be a good excuse to share it with people before the restoration begins in earnest.
Which means, no, I haven't made any progress on it. Funny how things in life like work conspire to mess up all the fun stuff.

Re: My other off road car
So, the baja is on the road and running decent. Still waiting for the mods to announce the Nov OROTM and didn't know what to with myself since I've already made 14 trips to the fridge and my bearing for the 1776 were wrong so I had to ship 'em back. What am I to do?
I started tearing into the 1600 in the Rally Bug.
Needless to say, it doesn't turn over after sitting for 14+ years. Someone suggested I dump some gas down the carb, throw a battery in it and see if it will start...
Something tells me that ISN'T an option.

Damn rodents.
If it ever stops raining, I'll pull the motor out and bring it inside for a teardown.

So, whats the problem; adding a battery and gas down the carb shouldn't be too difficult. I would check the oil and change it though.
Are you sure it is rats, not hampsters?

True story. My buddy Cliff bought a 60something bug from a guy we work with for $800 bucks. All OG. Been sitting for 25 years down in Chulajuana. He just pulled the motor thinking it was toast. On a whim, he put it on his test stand and poured a little gas in it. Sucker started right up...[jaw hits floor]. Trans fluid came out like honey... Some guys have all the luck.

No need to shopvac it, that stuff will all fit through the intake valves.
I don't recommend pointing that muffler at anybody or anything you like, though.
And I thought I had it bad when I found a mouse nest between #3 and #4 cylinders. That's an impressive amount of rodent blockage.

No, it looks like it has been there for a while.

I could pull the carb off the auto stick and you could try that all I would need to do is actually rebuild on of my 2 auto stic carbs

After much negotiations and soulsearching, the rally Super is moving to a new home. The deal was made yesterday, it will be going to a very talented and respected VW restorer for his collection in CA. I'm sad, but pleased.

Sad to see it go. I saw it listed on CL a few times, but I figured you didn't wanna talk about it! lets hope he stays in touch, would be nice to see it finished, regardless of who turns the wrenches.
