That is a sweet weld, it is good to have talented friends and a great place to work at. Keep chugging away Skid.

I like the way you think, Herbie...

I finished a key piece in my exhaust system today. I needed to transition from a rectangular header flange to a round tube. here is the flange on the Outback Motorsports header...

Image

So I designed and made this "collector" to bolt to the header. It came out looking really cool! I used .500" thick stainless steel, and formed two halves of a 2.00" dia. x .06" wall stainless tube over a mandrel, then had them welded together.

I also trimmed the lower coolant hard line and tucked it in closer to the header. It doesn't stick out as far, and looks better. I will use header wrap around that area of the header to shield the coolant line from heat.

Nice work Skid, great idea what are you going to use for a muffler, you going to do anything with the oil filler spout?

Here is the muffler(s) I bought. I have two, actually, and if anyone is interested in the other one, let me know.

The oil filler is going to be replaced for sure. Outback wants around $90 for the 45 degree, polished billet one (needs to clear the fuel rail). I haven't convinced myself to fork out that much. I would rather design and mill my own part at work! 8)

We finished welding up the muffler assembly at the shop this morning. It came out better than I hoped it would! I am really getting anxious to start this thing now. I sheared up the aluminum for the fuel cell enclosure today as well. As soon as that gets formed and welded next week, it's just a matter of a few wires and some fuel lines and she is ready to fire up!

So close I can taste it!!! And guess what, I have a wedding to attend next Saturday, and Sunday is the Pomona Swap Meet... I hate it when I can't get the (little) time I need to button this thing up.

I am absolutely ecstatic with the way the muffler assembly turned out! It does look like it was just meant to be in that configuration. Anyone want to buy a polished MagnaFlow muffler? I even have a few stainless tube bends left over as well...

is it going to be supported by anything else? or does it not weigh enough to matter?

Yeah, any place that set up their aisles with beer vendors at one end and porta-potty's at the other should not be missed. Oh, and we take the wagon in case we get thristy mid way.

I'll be down looking for electrical crud... its been a little lean the last few times.

what is the extra bolt hole in the exhaust flange for?

and skid, don't forget a skid plate

Guys, guys, c'mon... this thing is still "under construction"!! I am close to starting it, not driving it...

The extra "bung" on the exhaust flange is for another support strap that will mount to the lower left bolt of the throttle body. I am thinking 1/4" x 3/4" stainless flat bar. This will tie the whole exhaust system to the top of the engine. Otherwise, the whole thing would break at the cylinder head underneath - the only other mount location.

The rear cage could not be started until the muffler assembly was in place. I didn't want to end up with an interference issue building the rear cage ahead of schedule. The skid plate will mount to the rear cage, once it's in place. one fab job begets another... or sh1t rolls down hill, which ever you prefer.

hey skid you dont happen to have any pics of your dash before you put that awesome panel in there. i wanna see how you prepped the stock dash area. and how you mounted the one that you made.
