No problem; they'll do them there for $20 apiece, no minimum order, which is cheaper than my local guy will do them for. So I'll be ordering some sets from them so I have them on hand. The orders for new motors are rolling in, and I have to try to stay ahead of the game.
Yay!!!

I've been stalling on getting mine actually installed, with gas costing what it does my motivation to get the ol' gas sucking automatic tranny equipped Vanagon going went south. (also waiting on heads, didn't feel comfortable with the bubble gum seats)

I have another use for the CBs w.24mm pins, I think some longer SCATs and a serious shave for the AAs are in order...

The 86 has really slow ramps, with the 1.4s, intake doesn't actually close till ~70 ATDC, so more compression will be a Good Thing. I'll try and get some of the low end back with the T1/1600 ex lobes...(20+ degrees more displacement on the power stroke)
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

So still need the tops skimming.. ok that sounds fine for running LPG (Propane) and we also have higher grade fuels here.. (95, 97, 99 RON)

enquired about the stroker cranks.. price has gone up and with the shipping are not as cheap as I had hoped... have to do 1 though as I have the set of 98mm Oettinger pistons and barrels...
and don't forget E85 :P

get rid of the problem and sell your 98 barrels to meeeee!! :D
Yeah, E85 would be good, but getting any info and an ecu that will retro fit is proving a pain If you knoe of an ecu thats a sensible price let me knoe!!), got a programmable ignition ecu sorted so that will help with a different carb/s etc...

You can make me an offer on the 98's.. but I still think I am gonna do it and stick on a pair or twin 40's.. should be "interesting"

Just to update the info on the QSC 96mm P&L sets. They were unavailable for a few months this summer while waiting for the new production run. I got several new sets earlier this month, first thing I noticed was that the cylinder castings were obviously not the same casting as before. The problem we've been dealing with on these was the inconsistent bore dimensions with oval and taper as much as .004". These new ones check out at <.0004", which is VW's tolerance spec. Very pleased by this, we won't need to be picking and choosing the better of a mediocre lot to make up a set of sleeves anymore. The walls of the new jugs also end up being a little thicker than stock, quite a bit heavier, and the hone looks more like a 320 grit where the old ones looked like a 400, I'm also happy about that. Very nice hone job although I'd like to run a plateau brush thru them.

Just recently I had a QSC 94mm set come in in a core engine, the jug walls were obviously thicker than the 96's so I checked them and found they were also very true at <.0004" oval and taper. I hadn't seen any of these before, but what I understand now is that formerly QSC had worked with a single casting, which when finished to 94mm gave a true bore, but then they would re-bore the extra 2mm, and in a production environment where to be economical they must take large cuts per pass the jugs would distort and end up with a lot of error in the finished bore, and often cracked skirts. Machinists I've had try to rebore the stock jugs for me have run into the same problem. I had noticed that the overall error had been improving recently, so I think somewhere in there QSC were adjusting the process, probably boring a bit less and taking more out on the hone, but that had only cut the problem down by about half. So it's nice to see that they stepped up and addressed the problem definitively with a new dedicated casting for the larger bore size.

Other than that, the parts are packaged differently, in plastic bags with styro panels in the box to cushion better, and coated with a light oil instead of the heavy and stubborn packing grease they formerly used. The new jugs are dirtier so require more work to get ring-ready, be aware of that. The pistons are still the same accurate size, weight and finish quality. The rings and pins fit well but these deficiencies had been worked out long ago. And, thankfully, they didn't correct the comp height, which to me is a great asset even though it may bone a lot of hobbyists.

Very good news Chris, thanks for the update. I was almost ready to pay stupid money for a set of dj pistons.
