The house was a zoo yesterday, anyway, my cousin's six year old helped me pull the engine from the `77, here he his enjoying a Slurpee before stuffing it in the Baja...Once the sugar hit, he was worthless...I had to ground him to the velour racing seat on a creeper so he'd stop jumping all over the Baja.

Well, drove it around the yard a little bit in what feels like forever! Engine feels good, exhaust sounds great, trans seems fine, brakes may need adjusting, fuel line needs replacing, window regulator needs attention, must hook-up speakers without amplifier, requires 1157's in the tail lights, and buy some spray paint for the roof rack...

I must've neglected to grease the throttle cable, it was rusted solid! Nearly ripped it into two pulling it out, but had a spare just long enough to make work with a custom piece for the GBE linkage.

Almost ready...never did get to fixing the window regulator - nearly the whole bottom of the channel is rusted clean through.

Really like your wheel choice. What size are your rears? I couldnt find 4 lug wide 15"s, so I had blank drums drilled out to 5 lug Chevy 2wd truck and reused some 15X7s in this pic. Have some paddles mounted on 15X10s.

Right on...yeah, love the old mags...we've got a bunch of 13/14/15's - a handful of which are 10". The ones on the baja are 8.5" - supposedly a sand guy got blank rims (before I was a twinkle in Dad's eye) and drilled them 4-130mm PCD...They're built like brick-outhouses!

Hit the scales at the race track tonight, and with ½ tank of gas, and just about everything removed (no spare tire, roof rack, receiver mounted trunk, or much of a stereo) it still weighs in at 1930lbs...I'm a little dude, so about 2100lbs with a full tank of gas. The left side weight was 51% and the rear weight was 55%.

Added three of the SAW 15% stiffer bars in the top tube while making it full again(it was only the four stock big ones):

I did notice while tinkering with making a decklid for it the other day...On Daron & Karl's little baja extravaganza I broke the driver's rear fender in two and ripped out a square nut-sert! The one corner with a nerf bar, lol.

I wonder if it was those bushes that ripped your LR fender? Both my rear fenders took a pretty good beating and scratching. I'll never forget looking back and watching the front end of your baja bouncing up over that pile of snow . I think that was when your Dad yanked the grab handle off the dash...was a good day.

Is that plasma script on the deck lid?

I'm guessing it happened upon compression of the suspension doing something stupid I'll have to go look at the direction the nut-sert popped-out toward.

Yeah, decided rather than making rain carb hats (was gonna use little upside cooking tins something like Porsche) I'd just carve-up a spare `69 decklid to fit and I'll throw some hood-pins at it...maybe weld some dowel along the bottom edge for strength and tetanus prevention. This way there's somewhere nice to hang a license plate when the Thule box isn't in the receiver.

I'm not sure...until then, if it's running and my schedule is clear I'd love to take the girl on one of these trips The paint is ready and the booth priced has worked-out to $150 for a day...need to do some bodywork here soon and get the Uncle to make it pretty - he's the one who painted the now fading and spray painted up 'azul blue' when he bought-it off Dad.
