Re: my stock 1600 dp turbo build!
Well I stripped the carb and the second stage enrichment is as it should be, theres no easy way of making it smaller as its a bush and not a jet!
Argh!!!!
I have no idea what to do now I can't continue to run 10:1 afr on boost! Wasted fuel, choaking it up and wasting power!
Fairly p****d off now!

Re: my stock 1600 dp turbo build!
11 psi at the min, would that help with the afr?
What can it take? I'm running 7.5:1 CR and limited advance dizzy to 24*.
Heard it might take 15 psi but do I want to risk it?

My motor runs 7.5:1 cr and handles 19 psi of boost. I run a chargecooler though. If you have the means to measure afr give it a go. Take small steps & keep a close eye on the afr & I'm sure you'll be fine.

Re: my stock 1600 dp turbo build!
My internals are stock. The crank is genuine but has counterweights welded on, the rods are standard 311b's which have been match weighted, the pistons & cylinders are forged mahle's 90.5mm. What was Clonebug running on his standard 1600? Sure it was around 14-15 psi wasn't it? The main killer is detonation which is caused by lean mixture and/or over advanced ignition. Since your ignition is restricted to 24* you only have the mixture left to tune..... Add boost or try to find a way to modify the bush in your carb imo.

I was up to 13 lbs and getting a bit of ping. My IAT's were up to 186 degrees and that was probably causing most of it. I was down to 21 degrees of timing or less since I have MS-1 and can set whatever I want.
I was also quite lean at that amount of boost due to the carb not getting it enough fuel.

So do you think with the correct afr and 24* that 15psi is achievable?
Last think I want to do is detonate my engine after all this time!

From what has been said by people in the know.......around 12 lbs. is pretty well the limit unless you have an intercooler or water injection.
A well matched turbo might get you a few more lbs. but that is not what most of us have. We use what we find on the cheap.
I have MS-1 handling ignition so I have an IAT sensor and now a coolant/oil temp sensor. That info is gold in being able to see what is happening with the engine while on boost.
I have many logs with lots of info on them.
To me having the Ms-1 running ignition is the best thing I ever did to the turbo project.
I've already spent enough just trying to get the carb to work. It would have funded the rest of the FI easily for the money I've spent. I should have just gone all the way from the get go.
Although I do not like to give up easily.

I have been talking to the guys on the Renault 5 gt turbo forum and they say that if I increase the air corrector jet size from 0.9mm it will lean out the mixture on boost a bit!
So that's my next job!
Then maybe look into getting an intercooler in the mix

Drilled air corrector jet from 0.9mm to 1.0mm and that took the AFR from high 10's to low 11's my next drill bit is 1.2mm will that take it too far?
If the last 0.1mm step is anything to go by that should put me in mid to high 11's!

Here is a link to a set of drills I bought.
You can't get any more reasonable than these. I think it cost me $15.00 shipped.

Cheers clonebug, unfortunately I'm in the uk! I have a set of micro drill bits but as luck would have it I have .90, 1.0 and 1.2 no 1.1 in between! Frustrating huh!?
