I can elaborate on the Brazilian GOL system.....
Its the worst thing I tested- period!
The GOL is a front engined, alcohol burning (hence cool running)1600cc engined vcar only sold in Brazil...
Email me for pics of the system on my dyno, and also pics of the head temp gauge as one side read FIVE HUNDRED degrees and the other read 350..... I had to abort the test before it caused a head failure on the test engine!
BTW- Thats not a "Porsche style" system- its just an axial fan.

Hi Jake,
With a few kind tips from you, I'm running a fairly unscientific, but useful (to me) test. As you may remember, on my 2.6 type 4 with Porsche style shroud, I have cut the top of the shroud off and made a removable shaped steel skullcap, so that I could play with some lo-tech airflow changes. I've directed more air at #4 and #2, a little more at #1, and just let the rest go where it wants to inside the shroud (told you it was unscientific) I just broke the cam in a week ago and have not taken the car out for a spin yet. Today I ran it for a little over 8 minutes revving it up to 2500 rpms or so and watching my temp gauge. I have vdo cylinder temp with two harnesses coming from two senders to a switch that allows reading both. I have the senders on #4 and #2. #4 got to 275 and #2 got to 300 so I think I will make some minor adjustments and try again. I also need to test #3 and #1 after I hog out the spark plug holes a little...not quite in the right spot to get the wrench on them (no I didn't drill the holes) Need to take it out for a bit of work on the road to really see what is going on. This is slow going, but I'll keep you posted. Thanks again for your apparently unending interest in this stuff!
On my way to Dave Hunts for the engine party...wish you could be there. I'm sure you'll hear all about it though...Take care.

Cool...
BUT, without load you'll never see any true readings. Once you get it up and running so you can take longer distance trips with it you can begin data logging to see what happens with changes..
I have to warn you- it is VERY addictive while you are seeing results. I became hooked on it and finally just broke the habit!LOL

Thanks MASSIVE TYPE IV!
I figured it was not a good cooling system. If it was, it would have been used long before the 'porsche syle' came along.
I'm doing research on your systems and will most likely convert. Your data and dedication to enhanced cooling is superb!
Keep up the good work,
Thanks again.....

Just to correct one point, that Gol was available with either alcohol or gasoline engines. They sold more of the alcohol version because it was heavily subsidized, but you could get either flavor. The only difference between gasoline and alcohol engines was compression, the coating inside all the fuel system for corrosion, a larger gas tank for the alcohol cars... and something else that I can't remember. The cooling system was the same, either engine.
