257HP from 2.4 L on pump gas! The Mighty Spyder is born!

There it is.... More than 100 HP per liter on pump gas, as a street engine!

280+ hours of my life. 50+ hours of Brents life and lord knows how much of Len's time was devoted to the conception of this beast!

The results were worth all the time we all spent on the project, undoubtedly. The engine is by far the smoothest running TIV I have ever designed and assembled!

The RPM range is astounding, the throttle response so crisp that it absolutely astounds me. From any RPM a blip of the throttle and a second later the tach bounces off of 8,000 RPM! Dynoing the engine is an unreal experience, the power never ends and it pulls so hard from 4K to 8K that its pretty easy to run away if you let your gaurd down for even a second!

The twin plugs make a HUGE difference, with one plug set disabled the engine runs choppy and lumpy, arm the second set of plugs and the engine idles like silk at 600 RPM! Thats not something you'd expect from an engine with 11.7:1 CR, a 318 degree cam and huge ports!

We have learned a lot from this project that will be applied to future engine combinations and cylinder head composition. The engine lived on the dyno for over a solid week, we performed more tests than we ever have on any customer's engine before- all while taking special care to log every movement of the beast to the degree.

I feel like a 500 pound Anvil has been lifted from my chest. Now it's time to get this baby all detailed and in the crate heading for London!

I can't wait to take this baby for my two laps around Lemans- Lookout France, the Mighty Spyder is coming for a visit!!!

This was a good day on the dyno- ;-)

Well done Jake. Brent and Len, that's simply awesome, that's all i can say. Also when you do those two laps at Le Man please ask the owner if you can put a camera on board please. Good on ya mate, you continue to inspire, cheers Damien.

That that's from a normaly aspirated aircooled engine!?! Awsome motor! A serious acheivment. Any chance of a recap of the engines make up? Valve sizes, engine stroke and bore?

It's coming to England? :D

Yes, it is coming to England, the customer is from just outside of London.

I can't give too many specs, as there is an entire book being written on the vehicle's build up.

You can read about the awesome hads at www.aircooledtechnology.com/le_230.htm

The owner has been commissioned to write a book about the build up of the entire vehicle.

That is one incredible dyno graph! I sure am glad to see that puppy finished and ready to ship. Ofcourse I'll always wonder what it would have produced with some ex system development.

I think there is another 16HP to be had in the exh, Len.

Thanks!

I could have gotten more from it with even more dyno time- but time constraints limited us there big time.

I was amazed with the RPM range, the power literally never ends! With a bit more cam I think it would make power to 9K!

I'm a bit surprised you're getting bashed on the CLF for injector sizing...sheesh!

It's not like injectors always flow their advirtised rates :D

BTW, on my old Range Rover, I replaced the 19 lb/hr injectors with 14 lb/hr injectors...it ran much smoother, stronger, cooler, and had better emissions. With peak HP above 5000 rpm (and an auto tranny that always shifted well before 5000 rpm), why worry about sizing an injector for peak HP? Obviously not a high-performance application by any means, but just an example that the smaller injectors worked better on that engine under the parameters defined in the stock ECU's fuel map.

You used what worked best, and you found the larger injectors were a decrement on low-RPM performance...that should be reason enough!
