We made it without a single mechanical issue!!!! Thats amazing considering my 40 year old car hadn't been driven this hard for this long in many years!

The engine performed astonishingly well and has exceeded my expectations for operation in all the vast climate and elevation changes that we experienced.

Our average speeds were consistently between 70-80 MPH, on the entire trip I was passed less than 25 times! My goal was to cruise at or above the speeds of modern cars and thats exactly what we did!

We logged over 1.4Gb of data and used 160 gallons of fuel, or 22 tanks for an average of 21 MPG for the trip! The engine saw elevation from 610' to 11,990' and speeds of up to 98 MPH sustained for FIFTY MILES today coming through Nevada. We'll be uploading this incredibl;e data log tomorrow for you to see. I had finished my test work and set the engine back up for optimum performance and then hammered down!

Wait till you see the video we shot in Iowa- it'll literally blow you away!

OK, I'll post a full summary tomorrow, I am beat and need to get some much needed rest. 3,450 miles in a 40 year old car in 5 days is really a hand full!

We did it, I want to see someone do it faster with a Type 1 engine

Zero mainenance!

Well done boys. I talked to Jake and Bill via cell phone several times over the last 4 days. Some times Only Bill could talk because Jake had his hands full driving. I could hear that type 4 getting wound out across Iowa and Nebraska and Bill said they where well above 90mph. All the data collected is very cool. No BS or "big fish" stories. You can't argue with live, raw data.
Get some good sleep and a sit down meal or two and enjoy Bug-O-Rama.

Glad to see you guys made it in one piece. My mind is firmly made up type4 for life. Now all claims about which engine is better can be put to rest t4 is the ultimate.

thats awesome to see it perform so well also very cool to see the logs and multiple trip reports that you guys have been able to update so far. I don't think the wife would appreciate the cross country trip in a bug too much..... lol

Congrats Jake and Bill for making the Trip I've dreamed about doing for years.

I watched the data on that T4 engine and was truly amazed at how cool it was running and the effortless performance. 70 mph at 2500 rpm's...... wow. 160 gallons of fuel!! That's about $500 you can't even fly that cheap!

21mpg with all that extra weight and at those speeds...Awesome!

Can't wait to see that 98mph run and the video.

BTW... How are you getting back home?

Actually it appears from the data that our BEST MPG was achieved yesterday in Nevada when I decided to halt the test work and make some tracks to get into Sacramento at a decent hour..

We averaged 26 MPG while running no less than 85 MPH, with a peak of about 98 MPH and average speeds in the low 90s for almost 50 miles! I finally backed out of it because Nevada State Troopers were all over the place and the radar was going crazy...

We have not looked closely at the data (I am beat)

Hey Jake, i usually dont post on the RAT forum but i must say this was a very impressive feat. it really makes a great argument for the type IV power plant. its really making me take a serious look at what you and i discussed at cyw.now if i cant pitch my engine to someone i will be ready to be converted.you and i still need to have another sit down about it to finalize those plans. thats another story though. Congrats on 3450 trouble free miles.it is truly a milestone.
