Got an oil leak from a few spots around the alternator mount, where it meets the breather chimney.. Trying to fix the leaks today (clean up and re-seal it all)... Got all the bits undone that I need to, with the exception of the following bolt (picture borrowed from Jakes site):
Cant get a spanner to undo it (it fits on, but cant rotate enough to get onto the next step around), can get a socket on, but no socket bar/wrech will fit...
Any ideas on where I am going wrong?
Also, what thread/pitch is it? Going to replace it with an allen headed one to make life easier for myself in the future.
I have screwed this bolt on and off about 10 times in the last week. To get the bolt, I use a 13mm swivel socket on the end of a 9" extension. No probs. Works on mine. I'll check thread size/pitch and try to post later in the day.
Had to slacken the two side bolts off, that let me rock the whole lot enough to undo it.
Now using a slightly longer bolt and a nut stuck under the bolt head to raise the whole lot up 7-8mm.. Can now get the ring end of a spanner onto it easily.
Doc, if you can get the bolt specs I will still invest in a hex version in A4 grade stainless to make life easier in the future.
Interesting. I went out to the shop to look at the bolts and the one in the right hand top hole is different than the other three. However, I'm sure the size is the same.
All seem to be 8mmx1.25, Grade 8.8 metric thread bolts. I can run a 8x1.25 hand tap down the holes easily. Betcha that works!
Would've replied a little earlier, but was watching merry old England slip by Paraguayin opening round World Cup. The English boys looked strong, although I thought they could have developed a lot more offense. But as they say almost everywhere, a win is a win.
