this is my first experience with doing my own work on a vw or any car for that matter. i am currnetly trying to get my 78 transpoerter to start. i do not have a timing scale on this engine. i need to know a fool proof method how to find TDC on my 2.0liter engine. the distibutor and the distibutor drive gear are not in the vehicle at this time or i would use that method. the PO removed the drive gear and then lost interest or something and "never tried to get it running again" i have found the knotch on the pully and painted it bright white so i have found that step. i have been told to pull the valve cover gasket off on the passenger side and "Line up the Knotch at 12:00 and Wiggle the rocker arms on the # 1 cylinder. he said that they with both (intake and exhasut) wiggle a little bit when they are closed. i was under the impresion that tdc was a few degrees before 12:00 on the pully. more like 11:00 or maybee a little before. a little advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you in advance.

Richard,
If you don't get the response you need pretty quickly on this forum, please post the same query in the Type 4rum, another forum on STF. You may get more help there. The main guy on this forum happens to be away for a few weeks, so things are kinda quiet here. However, maybe some of the ACT regulars will jump in. Either way, I know you can find help on STF. Good luck.
