His toy broke.. Now mommy has to foot the bill.

Some Engineer at GM should have let a farmer design those tie rods!

I would have gladly hauled him out of the woods.. 8)

Unbelievable................even an OG military hummer is built better than that...............I guess the H2 is meant for looking good on the dealership lot instead of going over a few little stones, I could have taken my old Baja over that stuff!
So you think your project is taking forever eh? Well you've got nothing on me.....

Or a Mercedes/Puch G Modell. Built for all terrain.
An all terrain vehicle would be a:
1. Mercedes G (out of production)
2. Mercedes Unimog
3. Volvo Lapplander
4. Toyota Landcruiser

Hummers are just a joke. Heavy in weight. Fuel consumption is a nightmare. Technic is out of date.
In the next town there's a US car dealer (imports car by self). Hummers are allways in stock - the same over month. No one wants to buy this cars anymore. The time is over (Switzerland/Germany).

Just read a couple of days ago that SUVs sales drope for GM by 1/5. Fuel is to expensive for US people (and the price per gallon/liter is much lower in the US).

Yep, my next toy WILL BE an early 80s Diesel Mercedes Gelandewagen military surplus from Austria!!

A local guy gets them from time to time.. It sucks that they are watercooled, but the diesel makes up for it!

Hummers what a POS, there is a goverment auction yard down the road from me with about 5 or 6 hummers in there, the government bought them to patrol the prisons here and they just keep breaking down and were too expensive to fix, they ended up getting some Land Rover Defenders i believe, now there's a real Four Wheel Drive, my brother had one with the Tdi turbo diesel went everywhere, then he bought a Nissan Patrol, now there's another POS. I would like to get a Pinz Jake but they are rare as rocking horse s#$% here. Cheers Damien.

Jake.

The G modells located in Austria are Steyr-Puch labeled, also the army Gs for swiss army. All other Gs are Mercedes labeled. The first modells before the facelift has the OM61x engines installed. With the facelift they got the much better OM60x engines. You musst take a autotrans G (better climbing). I would suggest a G300D (OM603 engine code).

The G is assembleede at Steyr-Puch in Austria. The 4wd technic comes from them. All diffs are selectable blockable. Thats the big different to the other in the market. The G is not really comfortable, fast or economical. Take the G as the car is.
AMG (a german tuner) has build a G with a V8 from the S-class - limited to 200 km/h :D
The G is often used to pull big boats. In europe (small different on the countries) you're allowed to pull a weight depending on the weight of the car and you're getting an extra kilo limit with 4wd. So the G is the puller in the long version.

Have fun with the G.

Take a look here: http://www.zztosh.de/volvo.html
We had these in the Norwegian Army allong with Mercedes G and Landrovers.
It would drive in circles around them in the snow, and that is without diff brakes! A truly amazing vehicle, I have never tried a Pinzgauer, but I suspect they are similar.

Yup. The H2/H4 is nothing more than a GM pickup chassis with a "Hummer-like" body. The H1 Hummers are the real deal...

WRT the Hummer.
GM (or whoever it is making them) also thought that the were about to take over Paris Dakar a couple of seasons back. - Come to think of it, more like about 5.
Anyway, they brought 2. none of them completed. They both broke down before they were halfway through the race. They were also too heavy for that kind of racing. - Its difficult to control 2½ ton at 110 mph in the sand. We havent seen them since then.

The old H1s were OK machines, much heavier duty than these new rides that wannabees drive to look cool..

I drove the H1s when I was a Marine and even completed a tactical driving course with one on the beach in San Diego. That course was great as we got to beat the piss out of them, jump them and go through sand traps at wide open throttle..

The thing I didn't like about them was you can't really see the terrain you are tackling, unlike the Pinz that puts you right on top of the terrain so you can peer down directly onto it.. I also didn't like their cheesy way of diff locking where you have to rest your foot on the brake to lock up the diffs..

I prefer the Pinz manual method of diff locking over this method, lights pop up on the control panel telling me that a particular diff is locked or that I'm in 4X4..

Sounds a-lot like a bus.

I've gone over stuff similar to that video in both busses and my squareback and never broke anything.
As a general rule I either bottomed out, lost traction or got through. Didn't really worry about breaking tie rods though.

I'd also bet my square burns less fuel in 1st gear on those trails than the H2 does at highway cruize speed.

Funny you call 'em "Lapplander", as we Swedes call 'em "Puppets". :)
It's an amazing truck. It doesn't run fast, but you can run it anywhere. Unfortenately they are getting rare nowadays, even here.

In -83 they competed in paris dakar and came first in their class (trucks up to 10 ton), 2placed of all trucks and 20 overall  But the winner that year drove a MB g-wagen ;)
