Clutch Cable Length

Jake,

Your "A" trans is now in the '63. When I reinstalled the stock clutch cable, it seems about 1" too short. Is there an easy solution?

Sounds like you got an earlier cable...

At any rate the cable from a Ghia works very well and gives more adjustment... The early Beetle cable **should** fit, but with this Brazilian junk today who knows!

Thanks, Jake. Just another little dilemna.

Looks like I will order an older bus cable and shorten it. Measuring yesterday, it appears that the newer trans is just a little longer than the old. That seems to be the difference. About an inch. Looks like the only way to go is with a 3-4" longer cable and one of the shortening kits. Not the best solution, but can't find a cable, per listed length, that will do.

I'll figure it out.

The cable for a later Ghia works really well. I use the one from a '74 Ghia, its the longest. Bus cables attach to the pedal cluster differently than a TI.

Oops! Thanks. I would have gotten to the pedal cluster and been "sore".

I'm going to take my cable out and measure it. I looked at other cables (lengths) as they were listed and it seemed the bus cables were the only ones long enough. But let me measure my current cable to make sure. I just assumed it was the stock cable. I'll post results. Thanks for the info.

The longest Type I (Beetle, 'Ghia and Thing are identical) cable is the `72-mid`74 at 2281mm. Late`74-`79 is 2268mm, and `62-71 is 2260mm.
Type III is 2333mm.

Thanks fellas. I pulled the cable just cause I'm the hard headed type and it measured 2251mm. Seems to be closest to a 60-61 T1 cable. This is shorter by a little than the "real" stock cable that came in the car, which was 2260mm. Replacement cable was what they had and it worked, I guess.

Jake, you're right. The Ghia/Beetle cable that is 2281mm should give me just about the 1.2" that I need. Much better than the shortened cable solution. Thanks.
