idle response is slow...ICT's

Post by PunchBug »

1970 1600 Type 3 with 009, petronix, new plugs and wires, and dual 34 ICT's installed. Timing is set to factory mark.

Car starts and runs. Seems to chug a little but not so much that it is not drivable - but doesn't seem to have much power. It takes "pumping" to get it to rev and when you lift the throttle it takes a couple of seconds to start to idle down. If I were to describe it by sound, instead of "vroom", it's more like "vvvrooooooooommmmmm".

does anyone have any suggestions of where to start? (please no suggestions which involve re-installing the stock dizzy or FI :) )

Thanks,

What's your fuel pressure? Float level? Any vacuum leaks? Are the carbs sync'd? Are you running a balance tube between the manifolds? What's your total advance? (not just the initial setting). Did you set your points and valves? My first guess is fuel pressure followed by float level, and then sync. Everything mentioned should be checked and known by you whenever you install dual carbs.

I had taken the carbs apart and cleaned them one at a time....and never noticed that the floats were different ?!? Turns out that one of the floats was not the proper one.....Car is running great!

Thanks for the reminders and the help.
