YAT4Q -- Yet Another T4 Question...

Post by nikos »

Hi all from a new member,

I posted this to the T3/Samba a while back but got no response...

AFAIU, the enclosed breather T4 as per a '80 Vanagon is somewhat of a problem for T1/upright conversions.

Would this engine create any problems fitting in a T3, a notch specifically? I searched and read about the square ports and stuff.

Is there anything elese specific to these engines that one should be aware of.
I think I'm able to pick one up, recently rebuilt for short money, as the van is rusted beyond repair.

thanx,

nikos

The enclosed breather is not an isue if you are keeping stock cooling, and the cooling system works somewhat better that any of the older T4 systems.

The only real downsides are it will have hydraulic lifters, and will have lived a sad, brutal life, spent entirely pushing a 4500 lb shed and it's contents down the highway at extralegal speeds, always headed uphill.
(At least the case in the USA. Elsewhere, YMMV)

Have the heads gone thru/seat replaced at a very minimum.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
