OK Guys, I've spent months looking, asking, researching; trying to find a 195-50-15 competition tire for autocross. The size is specific. It has to fit the Ghia. There are plenty of "sport" or "high-performance" street tires, but that's not what I want. Hoosier was supposed to have "The Speedster" marketed for the classic Porsches in an A6 compound. They aren't making them yet. Hankook's comp tire (Z211) that WAS avail in my size is discontinued & the replacement is only avail in a 205 (too big). Yok's A038R is NLA. If you know a source that has a 195-50-15 competition tire, please let me know. Tire Rack, Disc Tire, and all the usuals can't help.
Thanks,
Ozzie

Ozzie,
They used to sell a lot of 15" size autox and road race tires but every one is racing on 16, 17 and 18s these days so the tire companies are phasing out our sizes. I understand you want a 195/50 . Is there any way a 205/45/15 can fit with your wheels?
I used to race on 205/50 but had to work the body a bit. I didn't mind doing this as the car was fairly rusty anyway.

Thanks David
195-50-15 Chopper Mech
Brent, I had to adjust the steering stops way out for the 195's after all the rubbing on the trailing arms. The 2.0L Fuchs keep things pretty well inside. On the outside I haven't had a rub since I switched to the Whiteline sway bars. They do rub with the smaller bars, so I'm sure I'll have trouble with the 205's. Even static I'm within 3/8" of the lip.

Ozzie,
One set up I had a problem with a 15x7 Fuchs rubbing the bottom ball joint inside the wheel. I clearanced the arm and ball joint slightly so they just fit inside the wheel. I think your wheel is 15 x 5.5? Where is your wheel hitting? Do you have a pic?
There are parts of the arms that you can clearance with out any worries. I would go that route. If you have 3/8 at the lip you should be able to fit the 205s with out rolling the inner body lip any.

Me too. Thanks for looking.
Brent, the wheel was never a problem, the tire rubbed the trailing arm right outboard the seal where the grub screw is. Adjusting the steering stops made that go away, but it did cut into my radius. The 3/8" clear is static. Turn and body lean & all that air & opportunity goes away.
If Hoosier would spit out the Speedsters, all this would go away.

How do these tires stack up to what you want? Height and Width wise?
Tire store just called back and said 22.7 inches overall in height. So those are too tall.

That's kinda right. They have one. I need four & Tire Rack says the other three are at least 8 weeks out. I'll edit tomorrow & post the e-mail.
David, who's your dealer? Did they say they could get the Speedsters?
I'll run the 185-65-15's in A6 in a heartbeat. I'm having trouble finding a dealer who says they can get them.
