I need wiring help

Post by mike cook »

I need to find someone in the greater knoxville to chattanooga tn are to either help me finish wiring my f/g buggy or to hire to do it !!! I have the dash with gauges done I'm just not understanding this wiring stuff at all. I'm using the stock vw column with dimmer in turn switch stock ignition switch in column, stock liight switch, wiper switch, 4way flsher switch, the harness I started with is one I bought off ebay it does not do a complete job at all!! but I have it installed so need to use it also I'm using 1939 frd taillites single bulb so I'm using the relay setup I think I got it off this site but it converts it over I 'm willing to pay a fair price to get this fixed I'm just a working stiff but know everyones time is worth something. I have contacted auto shops in my area none interested in the job thanks for any help or leads. I would be even willing to pay for a simple diagram to show how to wire it but it would have to be real easy for a complete novice{idiot} like me to use thanks mike

I need wiring help

Post by mike cook »

Yes I'm willing to do the work I have built the whole buggy myself so far!!! My problem with wiring is I do not understand the wiring schematics posted on different sites I need simple diagrams maybe take it one diagram at a time say wiring ignition first, then lights, then wipers does that make any since thanks mike

Mike

I can totally understand your challenges..

If you're in a hurry Earl Duty "How to Build a Dune Buggy" is probably the simpe read with easy diagragm.

Your challenge becomes VERY easy if you're willing to keep the battery, fuse panel etc all tucked in the rear.

If you do have a bit of time, we're doing a step by step install with pictures and drawings in the next few months.

We're here to help you.

wiring

Tim I would like to keep the fuse panel under the hood up front I made an aluminum panel that is hinged so that I can swing it down to get at fuses also the aluminum panel for gauges and switches have pigtails long enough to pull out and they have quick connects so they can be removed completly if needed. The battery will be in the back I guess the first thing I would like to do is do the wiring from the ignition switch to where the wires go if anyone has a simple layout for this that would be great thanks mike

Post by mike cook »

Yes I looked at it more today it does make it simple I'm thinking that if I can just figure out which wires on my turnsignal-ignition switch to use to convert it over to wire it like Earls diagram I could make it work my one question on his wireing is it legal to wire hi beams on a switch like that for hiway use I have no problem going to after market switches for lights I saw 1 switch at auto parts today had 3 position with a parking lite position,my only real thing is I do wantto use stock ignition switch on column for locking feature, turn signal on column for hi beam switch is built in am I asking to much or is this even possible I do appreciate your help this buggy is for myself and my grandson I have had him since he was 3weeks old and he's 10 now, so this is our project something to leave him if something ever happens to me thanks again mike

Mike,

Using a panel is probably easiest..

The duty book makes it the total simplest..
