turning

Post by vwpile »

I dont know if this in the wrong place to post this but i have a balljoint front end and when i turn all the way to the right my tire rubs on the inner fender-kinda like it turns too much, when i turn it all the way to the left it stops far away from rubbing like it doesnt turn enough. when i try to do a "U" turn to the left its a wide turn vise versa to the right its a real sharp turn. can i do something with the steering box to make them turn evenly both ways?

Sounds like someone didn't center the steering before aligning the front end ... or took the steering arm loose from the steering box and reinstalled it incorrectly. Take a look at your tie rods. I'm guessing that one side is adjusted all the way short and the other is all the way long ... providing that you're talking about stock parts.

yes stock parts. it only started doing it recently as in within the last month after a little offroading. i have never touched it and everything seems to be ok nothing bent or tweaked. i was just wondering if either the steering box moved a little bit on the beam or theres an adjustment thing i can mess with to get the steering to center. but thanks for your reply tomorrow when there is daylight i will inspect the steering arm thouroghly(sp?) and see if it moved on the shaft

Check to see that the steering arm hasn't come loose partially. If it has ... you'll notice excessive play in one direction usually.
