fuel level sender

Hello!
I just bought a '72 type 3.
Does anyone know what resistence the two wires from the fuel sender should have? Looks like someone "rebuilded" it with some wire and doesn't read correctly.

Empty: 73Ω
Full: ~10Ω

A Type 3 should have the cylindrical alum sender type.
Is that the one you have?

These have a range of ~ 0-100 Ohms.

No doubt Jim's got it right, I apologize for muddling things up. Be sure to look at the troubleshooting instructions on his site for the balance coil type of gauge.
I couldn't recall which sender a Type III used and relied upon information from only one vendor (Cip1 - I should've known better).

This is the one. So it's not the same as the ones on Beetles (mechanically and electrically). Thanks.
