Sealer Color????????

Post by MrGolf »

Painting my 72 Super candy Orange. Does the color of the sealer I use under the base coat effect the overall color. I would assume not as the base coat will go over the sealer? Then again the sealer color might make the base look lighter or darker which would effect the final color when the Orange candy is applied.......Comments appreciated.......Thanks
House of Colors paint and base. Spending $800 on paint and want to do it right.

As long as you have full coverage it wont effect the color. Grey will work just fine. By some spray-out test cards. (there half white and half black) spray a coat of color, dry it with the air from your gun, another coat, dry... ect ect until you cant see the white nor black through the color. Thats how mnt coats you need to get the true color. But as long as put the same amout of coats over the whole car and have nice overlaps, then it really doesn't matter. Most colors will cover in 3-4 dry coats.

if it is a true "candy" paint, they are somewhat translucent and the sealer can affect final color..

true candy is a trans. color over a base such as gold or silver. although hok has a couple varieties. like they have a candy base coat, which doesn't require a trans color over it. however a true and deeper candy is the tri way, which i call it... if you use hok, you can use their ko seal silver, then shoot ur trans candy n then clear. the silver will pop under the trans color, which makes the candy pop. however if you use like white, gray, black, you have to be super control with the overlaps of candy cause it will be blotched on those solid base. its better over silver or gold metallic sealers or base coats.. pm if you want any info.
