Do you think the green is bright enough?

i like it. i agree on the lot of work part. i would almost hate to drive into a mudhole or around sticker bushes. the first time i drove mine after i repainted it a branch came out of a tree and hit the fender, hood and bent my metal windshield visor. do you plan to put it back on the orginial pan or upgrade to a irs pan or better?

VERY Cool work.

For a baja (or houses) I like the 2 tone idea.. makes repainting 1/2 the car easier.

Will the bottom stay satin or is this the base coat?

Nice Job..

Hey guys, I left a reply earlier... but it did not come up for some reason... I probably hit preview and not submit...

Pafree- you seem to have my same kind of luck. We have an Irs tranny we are putting into the original pan. Slightly modified stock 1600 dual port with a t3 turbo for a power source... I'll post pics when its done. If I/we had known it was going to turn from a 'quick fix' to drive project, to a complete body blast and rebuild, we maybe would have changed a few things. As to date, we have well under $1k into this project (not including our labor, but including the ebay price of the car). My brother is finishing college; is a little tight on cash... the paint was my graduation present to him. Thanks for the post!

MNAirHead- I agree with your point regarding 2 tone. I personally think that the bugs are one of a few cars you can really get away with such bright colors on... but if all one bright color (usually green, orange, or yellow), I personally think it is too much. The lower portion is a single stage flat black (really easy to fix), you might recognize it from Mopar's of the late 60's. We wanted it to be a satin finish to make the green look even brighter in contrast. The pictures really don't do the green justice... its bright with a flash light on it at night! Thanks for the post!

Hey MN,
Your welcome to steal it! I'm not exactly sure what one of the blacks it is (the guy I buy my paint from is a guru; if you need more info on it, let me know)... but I can give you this info:

I used a Martin Senour single stage called Flat Black FPC, #8806. You obviously don't wet sand or buff because it would create a gloss finish. You can also spot fix very easially. I did the base clear with green and white first, then scuffed where the black was going to go and laid it down. Obviously not ideal to relay the pinstripe, it was the best way I figued how to do it, and was easier than I thought it would be because I had the white-green seperation line to follow.

All light bars and bumpers are going to be white.

Not sure if you're up to a hindsight reflection...

My show buggy has single stage white.. absolutely bites on tube work.. all the rust contrasts with the white color.

May be a consideration.. or repaint planning

Any clue of what the color code (or Make/model/year) your neutron green came from.

This shade of green is tough to pick.. most times it turns out looking like Kermit the frog OR a big freakin Lime.

This looks a bit "whiter" than Kawasaki Green.

I think we just found the color scheme for my next manx.

Hey MN,
We were thinking of doing a manx with orange instead of green, but flat black below (really like the green, but don't want matching cars). We had to look through a few options to find thios specific shade of the bright green. This one actually had more of a tint of yellow than some of the alternates, but it made if REALLY bright... pictures don't quite do it justice. The only codes on the label are as follows...

56 -59374 00(D)

The mix is (for a quart):
CF129 Clean Yellow 529.4
CF104 Yellow Green 558.1
CF223 B/C Fixer 833.8
CF224 Balance Solv 1016.8

If you need any more info, I can figure it out by giving that guru I know a call. Feel free to let me know... and I expect to see pics of it done within 3 days (joke).

Love the Green !!! Reminds me of an old bug from when I was a kid that ran around town.
I agree too, you can get away with Bright Colors on a Bug !!

Hey MN,
Its a Martin Senour as well (base-clear). Let me know if you can't get some because I could get it and send it to you (would also ensure it is the same I used).

Badazz,
Getting away with the bright colors, I think, partually relates to the unique shape. Being so different from most other vehicles (very round and rear engine to name a few) allows it to capitulize on being different! ... and thats why I like them so much! ... and no my girlfriend does not have 3 boobs (not that different)!
