There is an ownership transition happening with the site going from Zen back to James who created it in the first place. Once the transition is complete the site should be back up shortly thereafter. There was no warning about SBO or GL.com going down since it was not a planned event but that is all I can say on the matter.

I just want to make sure everyone is clear on this. There is no ownership change in the mix right now. That was done over a year ago. The GL website was still on its original hoster (not my hosting as I never moved it from where Alex had it). James is moving it from that hoster to his own server as I understand it. The 404 error is because the new server doesn't have all of the GL website and permissions set up yet. The domain name was still with my registrar (James was the owner though) which is what James was most recently trying to udpate. That transfer happened over the weekend and best I can tell, he is working on the changes.Bugorsh wrote:There is an ownership transition happening with the site going from Zen back to James who created it in the first place. All, be patient. This is not his primary job and these things take time.
That said, since there is a general lack of communication on what is going on with these changes, there has been several noticable periods of downtime since I gave up the site, many of the site functions have not been working and there are disappointed/upset people about all of the above, I want to be clear that I am not involved with the site in any way and have not been for over a year (I don't have the date handy). I don't want what was a hobby effort for me and one that was in no way connected to my web design and hosting company associated with what is going on!

Since it has been nearly six years between the above post and the previous post, it may be prudent to point out the GL site is now (dot)NET, not (dot)COM.Fiatdude wrote:Has it happened again??????

Roflhat, have you tried using another email address? I don't know if it will help, but I remember a while ago certain email addresses were seen as unsafe so it wouldn't allow it.
Otherwise, I actually have lost track of who the site administrator is at this point!

Well, it looks like the inevitable finally happened..
Wasn't much really going on there,
So not sure too many will notice.
What with facebook and the like,
Not a lot of us forum types around anymore.
Doesn't look like the wayback machine is much help, ether.
There were some really nice how-to articles on that site,
Build threads, too.
Some of us will miss it.
RIP Germanlook

Agreed. Saddens me to see it go. I would check it daily, but there was very little activity.
I second the RIP

I thought Germanlook has been on Facebook only (and totally useless) for awhile, like years now.
Used to have some great info.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Re: whats up with germanloook.com????
I remember in college every Honda Accord at the time (in the mid-90s) had a roof mount short antenna from a VW GTI or GLI 16V, the whip, remember that one? And likewise all of these cars had coffee cans.
I don't see many of these cars anymore which is fine with me. There have also been thousands upon thousands of projects "started", but never saw completion. My favorite was a guy I met this summer who bought a '64 Mustang and wanted me to do a lot of sheet metal work. This car was a bare chassis with no motor, trans., or any running gear, much less the glass, etc. He had 4 kids and wanted me to do some of the work. What struck me as odd was the wheels and tires he bought for this car, like 315s or something. For all intents and purposes this car was basically light years from accepting a set of wheels and tires, much less moving under its own power.
I'm also sad to see the GL site go as was my concern with this site also. I don't do FB. I hate one-way communication which is ALL that website is arguably. A long series of one-way communications and like buttons and poop.
