The steering on my '70 standard is super heavy.
I run 15" wheels with 205 tires, so nothing super big.
A clubmember is running 18" with way wider tires and he says his steering is much lighter.
I've taken apart the frontend, and the steering seems fine, however manually turning the wheels needs some effort.
Is it possible that the balljoints are hosed ? Are those pressed into the trailing arms ?

Not sure how light/heavy it's supposed to be though.....

It should turn with ~zero effort off the ground, esp if the steering box is disconnected.
Should still not be very much with it connected. (other than fighting inertia)
Can you isolate it to one side?
Could be a jacked up steering damper i suppose.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

I had the steering damper disconnected when I tried.. so I guess I can't be anything else but the balljoints. I think I'll just order some new ones, can't think of what else it could be.Piledriver wrote: It should turn with ~zero effort off the ground, esp if the steering box is disconnected.
