I know next to nothing about WBXer's but recall seeing somewhere that Oettinger made stroker cranks (and presumably other tuning parts). I was wondering how readily these parts are available nowadays, the best place for finding them and what are fair prices to pay?
Thanks,
Cam

They made a large 4-cyl wbx, 2.5 I think, and some 6-cyl, 2.7 and 3.2? Don't quote me on the displacements. Pretty exotic parts, but they seem to turn up occasionally in the Euro market, and a guy here stateside got his hands on a nice new set of the 98mm P&C's awhile back. I think he shopped them in Europe and had them shipped over. I've never heard of any place that makes these available, it's catch as catch can.
I was going to mention that DPR in CA makes beautiful stroked wbx cranks for US$450, counterweights are extra. Seeing where you are, getting anything there is going to be costly, but I suppose you're used to that.

There was a guy in Oz that offered me a stroked crank.. but it was like 2000 au$...... bit steep.......
Oettinger cranks are rare now.. not been made for a long time and usually go for a good price..
I also scored a set of Original Oettinger 98mm pistons and cyls for a 2.5L and have tried to get them copied.. the costs are too high for the demand.. and I canot afford for 20 odd engine sets to sit on the shelf for the next 10 years...
I shall be getting a DPR crank, but they aint US$450 anymore either...

OK.. so not counterweighted they are cheaper... this is what I got from him..
"The 82 waterboxer VW rod journal, counterweighted, balanced, heat treated, standard size on rod journal, and 0.10 under on main journals are $725 a piece.
Shipping and handeling for this crank is $219 USD"
What do you reckon? counterwieghts not needed if not used above 6k?
Gonna PM you Chris..

Yeah, for the cost, if you're living under the stock FI rev limiter, I wouldn't bother with counterweights. The wbx crank is really well-balanced as it is, for a stock item. I suppose it might not be so nice as the stroke is increased, though, depending on how much. I would get Jose's opinion on that.
