Kafer Brace question

I have finished fabricating my Torque bar. It's the style with a bar across the shock towers and two bars from the rear Trans mount up to the shock towers. They are adjustable. What I want to know is, since the whole idea is to limit the Trans from twisting, would it be better to have one bar preloaded in tension and the other in compression? If it's twisting, that means one side is trying to get closer to the tower and the other side is going further away.

It doesn't make any difference what you do. Some guys preload them pulling up, some make them push the engine down, some leave them with no preload. They all work. Do whatever you want.

A little preload may help, esp if you have heim joints in yours, they can have a few thou of play.

I put a small amount of twist (up/down) on the frame horns opposite engine torque. Got rid of the last of the wheel hop, really just take the slack out is all.

Cool, I wanted to make sure I wasn't way off base. I'm just going to go about a 1/2 turn past slack opposite torque rotation. I ground the "ears" off my hemi joints to be flat with the yoke, so when tightened down against my support, they can't rotate.

The new stiffness of the rear set-up will allow you to use your 2 diagonal links to achieve true square alignment if desired. The shape's not gonna move much at all in use- if it works. :wink:

At the shock towers I used 3 x3 x 1/4 angle. I welded a section of 1/2" pipe
along the length of the angle, like this \o/. I then ran a 12mm x 6" long
bolt through the shock tower, the shock and through the 1/2" pipe and put a thick washer and nut on the back. (The passenger side shock bolt is 8 inches). I have one leg of the angle horizontal
and the other one vertical. I drilled a hole in each leg of the angle for the
link bolts to go through. At the trans mount I used 3/16" plate. I made four tabs & drilled a hole in each. Two of the tabs bolt onto the trans mount horns. The other two are welded to the first two for the links to bolt to.
I also welded a 1x1x1/8 angle between the two tabs on the trans horns, for added strength.
I have about 90 bucks in it.

thanks for the pictures.........does anyone know why I don't receive email

updates when your subscribe to a thread????

Checked my profile and I have the appropriate box checked to receive

emails. If others are having the same problem that would sure affect the

amount of traffic here.

Could be your ISP doing some SPAM filtering by domain...
Happens all the time.

Pretty sure the board software is working, I have never had an issue with it not sending notification email.

You might want to try notifying to a gmail or Yahoo free mail (spam) account and see if they make it there.

Never had a problem with filtering that I know of. I get email notifications

on thesamba all the time.

You posted this in July, and I'm just now seeing this only because I

happen to stumble on it. I asked this question in the "site forum", maybe

I will get a response there.
