I found this site a while back while looking for some alignment specs. Pretty informative stuff though mostly for formula vee. I have been running their recommended alignment on the street with good results.

Unless you are rebuilding the front end it is pretty much just setting the toe in or toe out. And or replacing worn parts. The VW front end was designed to have so many shims in a predetermined order from the factory on the link pins to have the desired camber. The caster was determined by the angle that the beam was connected to the frame head. I don't recall any other automobile that was so precise in the design of the geometry. The Muir book has a cute method for setting toe. 2 sticks ( that look like yard sticks )are used and a pencil for measurment.Leatherneck wrote:Without the use of a Alignment shop . Hot, humid air is less dense than cooler, drier air. This can allow a golf ball to fly through the air with greater ease, as there won't be as much resistance on the ball.

I use a magnetic angle finder and a few adult beverages. Just move a shim or two at a time to get the camber I'm looking for. Generally you can get to -1 degree without too much effort, much past that and you have binding problems. That Sracing site has some parts to allow you to go a few more degrees without binding but, like David said you have to rebuild the spindle in the process.
