Another beam question

I picked up a doner beam L/P to narrow and it has adjusters in it already but they are for up does anyone know where they are for stock? If the beam brackets are straight up and down (at 90deg) at what deg. is the stock bolt at?

Hi HID,

There is no "stock" setting on most of these beams. Even if you had a center mark, the condition and type of torsion leafs, and vehicle weight would make a big change up or down.

It's usually a fit-and-try operation.

Be forewarned that on some axles the highest ride height setting is lower than stock to begin with. We discovered this, to our dismay, with a PUMA axle we ordered.

The right trailing arm setting with a vehicle at rest is the arms should be nearly level with the road, but this is hard to get. Usually there is a slight downward slant on the trailing arm from the beam to the ball joints.

Hi HID,

Sorry. We were talking at cross purposes there.

The stock VW axle, of course, has no adjustment. The center pinch bolt only locates the torsion axle leafs and keeps them from sliding.

The top and bottom torsion tube bolt holes are fixed in place and do not move, as opposed to the adjustable beams which have a slot.

If you look at a stock axle sideways, the pinch bolts are situated an an approx 135 degree pitch on the forward side of the beams, which faces them dowwards.

Thank you FJ the bolt on a stock beam is more to the top so would that be at 45deg.?
