Has anyone got any comparative power /torque numbers for 2.1 DJ/MV engine they have modified with different exhaust and inductions. I seen some power graphs on forums but with increased capacity and different cams which adds too many variables.Just trying to get an idea of the maximum these motors will produce by exhaust and intake tuning.A before and after readout on the same dyno would be good.
Maybe someone who installed a 2.1 in a bug with twin 40/44's and tubular exhaust would have some info ?
DJ and MV cam is actually the same...
CR is approx 10.6:1 on a DJ and 9:1 on an MV.. timing is 10 deg BTDC on super plus (98) on a DJ and 5 deg BTDC on 92 (which we dont get) on an MV... (thats why they always feel "retarded" to me coz they really are on 95 and worse on 98/99 or LPG... (110)
I reckon super plus and 10 deg on the MV will get you close.. (stock fi)
to a DJ...
either on a paor of 40's and a 4:1 zorst could push the 140 bhp mark... MV will need a different dizzy as it runs fixed...
So you think a 28bhp increase is possible for the DJ?
I've done some testing so far on a MV which came in at 75bhp at the flywheel and with the addition of a 4-1 exhaust and some small kadron style throttle bodies gave 105bhp torque went from 107 to 140 ft/lb not sure whether it was the induction or exhaust that gave the big increase as I couldn't test the new exhaust with the old injection.
Well thats what I have been told.. and not by 1 or 2 people..
Trouble with any mods, unless you test each one and set up for each, you cant be sure whats made the big gains, but then again the combo makes a difference..
Twin 40's will do better than a pair of single chokes for bhp.. but I would say that you have a healthy increase on the MV, the extra grunt must make it go very well.. does it rev out better?
It certainly goes well enough to spin the ageing clutch which put a stop to any further testing on that particular motor. The DJ we have for testing made 95bhp std and 105bhp 20ft/lb torque increase with the exhaust so we will add the dual single choke induction and see what happens then add some dual 45mm tbs for comparison.

Yep, that's me.
I built my 2.1 Dj engine using a eagle cam, dual twin 40 dells and a modified racing merged exhaust.
It dyno'd at just over 120 hp but that was with a twin pack muffler fitted.
At a race meet last year it ran a 15.8 1/4 mile fitted with a stinger exhaust.
I made 96 @ the wheels with a 2.1 with 8.00:1 comp (stock is 9.00:1), stock cam, 1.4:1 rockers, cleaned up heads, bug headers, slightly larger throttle body & Autronic SMC ecu.
