Hello
I have a 72 super beetle that has been converted to 4 wheel disk with a kit that uses ghia front calipers on all 4 wheels. I would love to use the same e brake cables or something similar i can hook up a good rally ebrake.
Is there a way to add a second smaller manual caliper for the ebrake?
thanks

Say what?
Hi Chris,
No special e-brake-only secondary calipers I've ever seen.
But there is a way, although not as easy to use as a handbrake lever. Install a hydraulic brake -- these are "Line-Loc" type devices that allow you to depress the brake pedal, and maintain the pressure on the pads with a valve.
Handbrakes are useful, especially for locking the brakes when removing axle nuts. I kept the rear drums on our '70 track Ghia for this very reason, and just had them drilled out for cooling by CH Topping.

Hi Chris,
I think you're going to have to get different rear calipers ... I have not sorted though enough brake kits to know if you can mix and match calipers from one kit with your rotors.
The fallback, if all else fails, is to reinstall drums, and get CH Topping to drill them for you.
Drilled drums are as effective as disk. We run and use them hard on the race track.

Some sports cars have separate calipers. If I remember correctly, I saw ones on a car as new as a Ferrari 360.
We have the same rules about the parking brake, and we're going to install separate calipers. There aren't many options available. Wilwoods. Here's a link to the wilwood part at jegs site: http://www.jegs.com/p/Wilwood/757779/10002/-1
We're getting hispec parts that are manufactured in the UK. It looks the same as wilwood but it accepts thicker brake discs.

924/944 (early-mid85?) rear disc brakes bolt on and have a drum style integrated parking brake. (Easiest to get the whole trailing arm etc, it ALL bolts on)
...drum style parkiing brakes inside the rear rotor hats... (most) Corvettes and 911 (and later) Porsches are examples of that setup.
I recently scored a 911 pkg brake setup to graft into the Pile as I resurrect her.
(it actually bolts on to 914, only minor clearancing rqd)
I haven't tried it w/914 rear rotors, suspect it has a slim chance but MIGHT work if you turned the ID, but I haven't measured anything.
As previously mentioned, slotted rear drums would probably be a far easier/cheaper and just as effective plan for a t1.
