First Oxyboxer build (from Argentina)

Post by Juan »

Hi everydoby,

Im Juan from Argentina and I just got myself a 56 T1 Ragtop. Im not new to VW but I never built and an Oxyboxer engine yet. Most of my parts are going to come from the US and I been reading (and mailing) the posts of the most experienced members in this specific forum.

I have a couple of questions regarding the build, since Im planning to go with a turbo on street driven car (not a daily driver, but I want to be able to do a 100 mile trip once in a while).

Do you guys consider the Autocraft 910 good for a ocasionally street drive? Im asking since I would love to go 101.6 x 82 but Im hesitating of their higher working temperatures.

Besides Nickies, what other cylinder manufacturer is available for 101.6? I ran accross some AA products at thesamba but thier feedback is not great. Any experience?

What crankshaft manufacturer and specs would you choose for a turbo set up? Wedgemated? (Im not 100% sure of that term)

And last, would it a T1 turbo kit, like lowbudget, fit an Oxyboxer engine or would deck height be an issue? (is it wider than an AS41?)

Thanks to everybody! This forums is been really helpful and I hope to find the answers to my dream engine build up!

Cheers!

I have seen some T-1 and T-4 cylinders cracked with turbo use.
Depending on the boost/poweroutput, I would shoot for some Magirus-Deutz cylinders.
I have no idea how solid the LN-alu/nicasil cylinders are, but looking at the prize, they should handle some boost as well.

Stick with a wasser based crank, no conversion bearings, and the five bolt arrangement is quite strong.
Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.
