That's badass! I love the tiny hexbar linkage. Makes me want to find a suby motor for my 58. Did you have to trim the body in the engine compartment at all?
Be sure and post radiator and exhaust pictures when you get to that point.

You're sick.
I don't know how anything could be cleaner or more simple than the way that looks. How's the clearance for the pan? Need to shorten anything? You going to be selling those modified manifolds and linkage?
So much for T4 conversions, that's absolutely ridiculous. Congrats, it really looks great.

jeez, it would loose a lot of topend with the 36s wouldn't it? I'd have thought it would need at least 45s?
btw, where'd you get those manifolds from?

The pan and pickup are shortened a few inches, it hangs lower than a type 1 but higher than a normal deep sump. I made the manifolds using the stock subi mani and grafted them to a pair of type 4 manifolds. It just worked out that the port spacing is very close. I left the injector ports and im using all four of them tied to a vacuum block for the map sensor in megajolt. Down the road I would love to go back to FI and bolt on some CB throttle bodies along with a 2.5 shortblock and a rather large turbo.........sorry got carried away there...
I did want a larger carb but I just got too good of a deal on the dels. I really think they will be fine though. It's only a 120 horse motor and I'm sure the combined area of the throttle plates is still bigger the the stock throttle body was.
As for cutting the car I did remove the seal lip on the apron. I don't think it was a 100 percent necessary though. If you remove the timing covers and install the engine mounting studs once the engine in lined up with the trans Im sure you could wedge it in there without cutting anything. But every car is different so dont take that as fact!
Should be running within a few weeks and I will be sure to post some vids. Thanks for the compliments!

Damn that shop is clean!! What is that motor on the ground to the left?

actually the EJ22 is 140hp stock. funny, some of the guys over here say, "what! only 140hp" when most of their aircooled motors are lucky to be making half that!
BTW, I like the idea of individual TBs. I wonder if I could come up with a way to run them with the stock ECU?

I rechecked and you are right. It's a US phase 1 and its rated at 130, the phase 2 is 140. I would suspect with the carbs and a good header It might make 140. Would love to put some reground delta cams in it too. I will put it on a chassis dyno when its done and find out.
I agree with you that most aircooled guys think they are making way more than they are. I work at a bug shop and I have heard it all.
Running Itb's with the stock maf sensor would require a pretty elaborate air box, doable but probably not worth it. Tunable managment would be a must.
What motor are you running in your buggy?

That's very cool. I always wondered if you could carb an EFI engine, just for simplicity sake. Nice job...gives me lots of bad ideas! I just did a quicky web search on the Megajolt, and turned up a lot of parts lists...what did you need to source for the engine to work with it?

Are you stealing parts off your oval again!!!!!!

damn thats tidy
theres a few carbed EJ22 engines in early model subarus on youtube
nice work using the megajolt
most of the carb converted ones use a dissy fitted to the cam blank on the left head
thats the main reason i went EJ22 is it fit without cutting my bug up
i can easy go back to VW power if it had to

EJ25 quad cam. it's really nice. lots of usable torque and pretty quiet with the current bypass style muffler.
Letterman7, one of the things that attracted me to the subaru was the factory EFI. I'm not bagging what 55super has done, and I see why he's done what he's done, but I consider going back to carbs a real backwards step. The factory ECU is really very good (self tuning and self diag) and the motors have way more power than most people would need for enjoying their cars. If I'm at the front of the lights, a few quick squirts of half throttle in every gear literally leaves the traffic behind.

So you are running a stock turbo exhaust manifold backwards, How is the clearance under the bellhousing?
I just love how much room there is for the carbs.
