Pauter rod's in WBX / OXY

Does Pauter rods fit "bolt-on" in a stock 2,1 WBX / OXY??
without clearancing the case, cam etc??
stock length , stock VW journals etc.
just swapping stock rods with pauter ones .(24mm wristpin's, yes)

Based on the amount of clearancing I had to do to get my Pauter's into my 2.1 case with an 82mm stroke crank (VW journals), I'm going to *guess* that no, they will not drop right in. The stock 2.1 crank should put the rods 3mm further away from the roof of the case than with my crank, and I did a helluva lot more clearancing than that.
The rods cleared my cam just fine even with the 82mm stroke, but the diameter of my cam might be a bit less than yours.
(BTW, the reliefs in the case in this pic were
before I got out the die-grinder and removed more material)

thx.
had your build in the back of my mind , but remember the 82 stroke.
hmm. so it's guessing. i'm gonna order a set to another project (like yours, 82 stroke on vw journals)
so i can test and see if it drops in.
but they are soooo pricey

Yes they are...so if you buy them, take them out of the package and drool over them for as long as you can (because once they are inside the case, you'll never see them again)

one more thing.
i asume the outside measurement on the big end's are the same , regardless og VW journal or chevy journal??
that they are the same forging but machined to different journals?

Hi fastback, Hows it going?, different forging, the chevy journal o/d is smaller then T1 size o/d size to clear cams etc at over 82 stroke.
thanks due by the way, i went with your idea for cutting my valve pockets on the 98s by hand as you showed, came out great in the end, forged alloy is very tough and quite 'hard' to machine, it needed good pressure and grip on the grinder to stop it 'grabbing' with plenty of lube on the cutter, i practiced on an old cast piston, which cut easy, so i was surprised at the difference. hope this helps...

thx bbb
i have a 82 crank with VW journals, but considering a chevy journal crank instead , to minimise clearance issues.
if the Pauter rods with chevy journals have smaller OD , i aim at a chevy journal crank .
glad u got away with grinding the valve pockets

Thanks for reminding me, I plan on licking all 4 Crowers and the Alfing crank before I seal up the 2466...

Hi fastback, stripped66s pauters do look beefy, but i would try to stay with VW journal for an 82, nice rigid crank, even 84 will go past the cam with most race rods, more room still on the DJ case at the top, i've an 82 in an early case no probs, fair enough for chevy if you go 86, but then in my view they really need T4 size centre main, to keep the crank rigid.

stripped , those pauters look bomb proof, i had some rods made here in the U.K for 500 plus turbo hp, they needed huge clearancing like your pauters..

Yeah they are beefy. but they have to be i asume when aimng for 500+hp /7000RPM .

i have been looking for alternative rods.
looking @ "std" H.beam type1 rods ,does not seem so rigid buildt, for a 5-600NM of torque.?
and the small end on these do look very small , cause i have to open them up for 24mm pins.
SCAT has a I-beam alternative , but not shure of those.
Carrillo rods are double $ of the pauter ones.
i asume the Pauter ones are bulletproof.

Crower makes very very nice I beam rods... About the same price as the Pauters, perhaps a tad less.

I had my turbo rods made here in the u.k by farndon, they were carrillo money back, then, so i guess £700/ p.s now days. we need to know what matt is running in his wasser, i seem to recall scats with 3/8 bolts. ive also used c.b race rods with 24mm pin at 7500 no probs, they look scary, but the big force is down the rod. ive also heard about an American rod by cunningham? any feedback?
