update after some time and cam & flywheel Q

Hi Guys,

Have not posted for some time

Got a bonus kid and have been busy tunig 2 T2 busses and 1 vanagon (my own )



It runs 100MPH+ on LPG
This is the first dynorun (RWHP) and it revs easely to 6000rppm now.
It's DJ engine with a RO667,7 cam,

Stock DJ exhaust header with highflow muffler modified melling oilpump (fits poorly)

Digital 3D ignition with 2 maps one for petrol and the other for LPG and wideband oxy sensor.

Not extreme, but a much better drivable car compared the 50 or so hp DF engine it had before.



Now my questions...
1st
How to identify flywheels: cast from forged?
2nd
And for the T4 cam in the pic, it came out a new industrial 1800cc engine with engine code 127.
AN heads, 40mm dual carbs. What cam is it? It has a pink colour band.
Is it a special cam for industrial engines or is it a stock AN 1.8 cam?

To measure the cam takes more time..... as I'm lazy

Time is also needed for my other project..... my triple two stroke

The best way to test a fly' for cast or forged is to drill it some where convenient, if the metal comes off in a continuous spiral, its a forging, if it comes off in small powdery flakes, its cast.
wasser 228mm flys are forged. hope this helps. all this fear of the word 'cast' is misplaced in my view, you wont hurt a cast flywheel anyways, and it wont matter in any usage except full house 8000 rpm drag racing. same with cast cranks, and ive never seen a broken one yet, despite all the claims to the contrary, but i have seen dozens of broken forged ones, two in my shop alone this year so far. i cant help with the cam unfortunately, i measure any i've lost the card or info for, but i do know laziness and engine work don't go together mate, go for it...

i'm not so shure about the wbx flywheel beeing forged.
it has typical casting numbers in it and when machinig it, it does not spiral.
even the "sound" is more dead than a forged flywheel.

Regards Fasty, thanks for your thoughts, you may well be right! two 228s i looked at today have those markings that look 'cast in' they would not be there with a forging. the drill test will confirm yea or nae, still, no need to over react i recon, in most use except full on drag motors they will be fine, tho i have a forged 200mm on my Okrasa.

I've 10+ flywheels laying around in all sizes. All my 228s has casting marks on the back, but some older T4s has not (210-215) I will sound check them
The cam is 260deg @ 0.15 play at the tappets (I know it's a bit off beacause it's not measured at the valves but close enough I think)

the 127s have a special cam, no good for anything but industrial apps or a good core for a regrind.
