Chris/Marc's project
Well, we've been taking our sweet time on this, but hopefully with winter approaching and racing season over I'll get into the garage a bit more and see this thing on the road before too long Just started rebuilding the steering column and that's pretty much it for the mechanicals...a bit of wiring (made a custom harness and modified late model fuse panel), and onto other things...

Originally had the 924S brakes on it, but scored some early 944 ones with the aluminum backingplates, and put the 924S stuff on Dad's daily...Upgraded to Lanner's billet aluminum e-brake adapters.

Most people would have a few dumbells or some bricks maybe to stack up to add weight. You've got enought extra cranks and flywheels to do the job .Chris V wrote:

Well, that may be a number of different engines...we've spent so much time thinking about it, I just need to finish it, put something in, and drive it. Probably: a) 1600SP b) stock-valve 1915 or c) big-valve 2-liter so anything from 50-150hp - I'm not picky It does have a late IRS trans with a GBE mid mount and Type II CV's - so it can take some abuse if need be.
I also picked up another `69 that I want to do a much, much more subtle resto custom job on...more sleeper. But decided this one needs to be finished first.

Have done a bunch more wiring, and finally have the steering column installed...this is gonna make pushing it around a lot easier

I could use a hand on a measurement if someone has the time, I would like to know on a `64-`66 Beetle the measurement from the drip rail on the A-pillar to the leading edge of the turn signal (or to the center of the hole in the fender for the wiring)...Should be in the ballpark of 27-30" to the leading edge of the signal I'm thinking.

Got my 996 storage bin fitted to the dash today, had to some whittling and grinding - still need to make a support, but I'll need to turn the car around in the garage to find the room for that.
So I've been looking for an answer regarding the fresh air knobs...seems that `73+ Super Beetles have lower profile ones and they'd be more pleasing in the unpadded dash, does anyone know if they fit the square plastic pegs just the same as the STD & early Super ones?

Made this mount...Two M6 tin screws from the ashtray into it, and then an M8 bolt w/fender washer from the back of the bin.
Also found one short knob (actually found three different lengths) in our collection of knobs:
And re-routed a factory 6mm power wire (heat-shrinked over the entire length of it) so it's not running with the rest of the loom:
Already tempted to take it out and put an 8ga wire in...but it'll probably be just fine the way it is, should be easy enough to do later if I change my mind.

Actually bought the car painted with the hinges as well years back...I know the bumpers came from Briz - a local company. There's another shop that specializes in this stuff that may have done the hinges - called Billet and Acrylic.

I love the pic of the ball joints tucked into the rim.. that has always been one of my concerns.. with that being said, what is the rim size and et? And do you have a narrowed beam?

15x5.5" factory 911/912 chrome rims - dropped spindles, no spacers that I recall...
I couldn't get away with this with Beetle 4-lug 15x5.5 Lemmerz steel wheels because the bell of the wheel was just a bit smaller, had to run some spacers to clear the lower BJ
17x7 ET 55 I think - Dropped spindles and I think about 30mm spacers (I've had several combinations of spacers)
Stock width beam, slightly trimmed the upper shock ears for more tire clearance. I think I get about 2-1/4 turns lock-to-lock.
