Guys,

Long time ago there was a thread with a wasserboxer with Subaru heads. I can't find it, if you know where it is please give me a hint.

I happen to have a EJ20 collecting dust, and a Vanagon with a damaged engine. The plan was to rebuild the DG, but when I'm at it... :)
(And don't tell me to put the EJ in the bus, I've already done that too many times and need a more "fun" project)

Thanks, but...
The thread I'm trying to find was a real Franken project, the engine was really built.

There was a engine builder in Oz working on that...
User iswinkels. Later built himself a rocking turbo'd Oxyboxer on a Rocky Jennings prepped WBX case.
(used my "internal search engine" for who... )
The suby-head engine owner had life get in the way, so it's stalled.

5th hit using Google site search, "subaru DOHC heads site:shoptalkforums.com"
http://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopic ... 34&t=96139

Main thread, 1st hit "iswinkels hybrid site:shoptalkforums.com"
http://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopic ... 19&t=93249

There are probably more threads on it found using various search terms...

Searching the STF works, you just have to use the most powerful search engine ever developed.
Good news: It's free.

Iswinkels still visits...

Piledriver, you're spot on! :)
Unfortunately the images seems to be gone. I did try Google, but your search words were better.

That beetle was nasty! I like that guy.

Just read that all the way through, A lot of work going on there.

Unfortunately he doesn't seem concerned with cutting out major structural components of the chassis and not putting anything back in it's place. Flexy flyer that will destroy the chassis with as much power as he plans on making.

Looking at his work, he could likely stiffen it up just fine.

Oz has stringent vehicle modification requirements to get a modified car tagged, like having all modifications inspected (possibly designed by) and approved by an actual engineer. Not the USA, for better or worse.

I suspect the end result will be pretty sturdy.

He cut the torsion tube in half and failed to put anything in to replace it. The only thing holding the 2 halves together was the shifter tunnel. Having built a couple off-road chassis, I can tell you there is more than a little force being imparted to that tube by the trailing arms. The too halves will slowly start to turn into a smiley face.

The floor pans with all there ribs and curves are actually pretty structural. Cutting them out then replacing them with flat pieces barley attached will not help any. A car with this much motor should really have a cage front to rear.

I agree.

I'm sure he'll have to do much more work.

I just read through that, and did not find any mention of the Subaru heads.

Did I miss something?

No, the last posts refer to Ians current personal project.
The Suby headed setup was being built for someone else, links at beginning of thread.

OT: Drove the Square to Dallas/work last night.
Nothing fell off!
