my type 4 2L in a notch build

Its a 65 notch that i got last summer, been slowly putting it back together. I fire up the 1600 that came with the notch, it was knocking so I made the plunge to a type 4 GD 2L. Found a complete 2L with all the FI for $200, tore it apart to clean and inspect. 3 cracks in the heads, found a good set of 1.7L and they are going to get bored and valve jobbed hopefully in a couple of days. anyways here's the specs.

2L GD
1.7L heads with upgraded valve train from EMW
Raby 9530 cam and parkerised lifters
early bus heat exchangers with a bugpack header/quite pack
200mm flywheel
new rings/bearings
914 1.8L plenum rest of FI is all stock bus stuff
Megasquirt 1 v3.00 w/ MSextra firmware and Bosch coil drivers
Ford COPs, TPS, VR sensor
GM IAT
walbro 255 lph fuel pump
welded a bung to the fuel tank for the return
ebay 5" trigger wheel
411 air duct
AEM UEGO wideband O2

The theme of this build is reliability on the cheap, i've mostly OEM parts for just about everything. I did splurge a little with the cam and the ignition but the price was right. Everything here can be had for around $2000, if you shop around and have a little luck on your side. A local engine builder thinks i'm retarded for wasting so much money and doing it the difficult way instead of just building a type 3 motor, HA! I think I'm going to be alright, got a lot of good deals and I'm doing as much myself as possible. Everything is going to fit under the engine lid too. I have plenty of experience with fuel injection and tuning.
I could have gotten the stock ecu with the motor but I decided to go with megasquirt. here are some of the beni's I'll get with MS1 in its current configuration:
fully adjustable fueling and ignition
rev limiting
2 step launch control
shift light control, can also be used for overtemp warning and if i hook up a knock sensor it will light up when it knocks.
wasted spark ignition
closed loop fueling
there is a whole lot more, i'm just too lazy to type it all
On to the pics, here's my photo bucket. http://s59.photobucket.com/albums/g296/ ... ch%202010/

Nice!

What's the purty rear seat out of?

I just stuffed my ratty old Cabby front Sport seats in mine, day/night difference in comfort, but thank goodness for seat covers...
(tweek the rear pickups ~1/2" (total) wider... ~easy, any Mk1-3 era VW/Audi 2 door seat should fit)

I'll try and get that 091>T3 front trans mount off in the mail asap.
It will at least make for a good pattern, car shifted great with it.

That seat is just a early type 3 seat, it came with all the boxes of parts when i got the car. That thing was in a million pieces, literally. PD, you don't need to send me the mount, I am just super curious how you modified it to work in your car. A front mount like that, rear hangers, and a kafer cup style brace should make for a fairly solid setup.

OK, I'll snap some pics and get dimensions off it.

Since you like cheap yet effective, did you see the kafer brace and strut brace setup I made for my sons 71 Super?

Hit Tunas site, it's in the how-tos. ~$70, udderly bullet proof. (and adjustable)

I'm gonna have to try that "paint/powder coat" stuff one of these days...

I think you've figured me out, ya the kafer brace DIY on tuna's site is the one I had in mind. This one is pretty good too http://www.germanlook.net/html/tech/Tech05CupBrace.php

I have a notch project too but I haven't figured out if I'm going to go with a turbo 1776cc or throw a turbo T-4 in it. I have the parts to do both, anyway I found this slick trigger mount while surfing and thought I'd post it up here. More details can be found at the link below.

Either of those motors would be awesome. Look up sandeeps and wally's builds, both are running crazy boosted type 4 motors. Ya thats a clean hall sensor mount. My setup is going to be a little simpler. I'm not going to machin down my fan, i checked everything it looks the fan should clear, I could also shim out the shroud if there is any rubbing. looks forward to reading your build thread.

The BIP373 coil drivers are in, going to swing by the electronics outlet shop and get a DB5 connector and some 20awg wire and wire them up. I still need to change around my jumpers too for the VR sensor.

I'm going to have to hold off on sending the heads out, I just bought a 63 notch parts car. It comes with a ton of goodies including a sunroof clip.

I don't need to run crazy boost and won't need the engine spinning high rpm's either. I'm building a nice driver that has a bit more giddy up when I hit the go pedal.

In reference to the trigger mount my thoughts are that he didn't need to machine the fan. On my T-4 I have an A/C pulley which sits behind the fan that the trigger magnets can be mounted to which would be much simpler IMO.

I haven't started a build thread here or on the other site but you can read my blog. I hope to have the notch at my place to start working on it this winter. I had to move (sell) a few projects at my place to make room.

here's some clearer pics of my new beastly brakes...i have a small package so i got to compensate with huge brakes. They are off the front of a 99 ML430.

and I got around to finishing up the fuel rails on those gsxr throttle bodies. I used the original composite rails, drilled and tapped them and got some 5/16" barbs off ebay. German braided 7mm fuel line fits perfectly.

All thats left for those ITB's is to have the injectors flow benched, get a mounting plate made and welded onto a IDF mani(need to have my mani's shortened anyways so it shouldn't be a big deal), and get the K&N filters(they make an absolute perfect one that has the right spacing, diameter holes, and is only 3" tall)

I went through some of my old boxes my mom has been storing for me, besides finding my old legos, baseball card collection, and comic book collection, I also found my old hotvw and vw trend collection.
