Type lV main bearings in STD STD are coming available again, these are from a manufacturer that has made them before, the company is Silverline and the price is $85. I saw them today and the 1st shipment are already gone, more will be available after the 1st of the year.

Oooo! Oooo!
I hope you ain't just putting us on....
That's not very funny, if you are.

Please let me know how they measure out if you ever get a set.

Are you familiar with this company?
Do they typically make bearings for other makes??

I just bought a set of Mahle STD/STD's to rat hole, what I need is a set of 020/020's, hopefully some of the over sizes will be available soon.

I know of an April Fools but not aware of a Dec Fools...

I have know the bearings were in the works for some time, and was waiting till they showed before I said anything. I saw the bearings today, I opened a box and looked at them, if I would of had may camera, I would be posting pictures. And I know some one is going to ask, they looked like Type lV main bearings.

I have seen the bearings before over the years, even for rod & cam bearings, and their also available for the Type 1.

Check them for specs, the old ones were not even usable...I shudder
to think what they are now.

I knew it wouldn't take too long for them to make another batch.

In germany there's no problem buying the bearings (the old good ones). They've stock for their customers. That's the difference between optimized warehouse/ cash-flow to easily provide parts. These tuners are not the hole day in the Internet responding to threads, they're doing business and they're well known.

I'm very cautious about my optimism.
Having never heard fo this company before, and perhaps for a reason?

The other thing is the sizing.
The KS were a bit bigger than spec,
which was smart, esp. for std/std.

The Mahles were small,
Which was really stupid.

How many NOS cranks are people using for these builds?
Most all will have had a polish.

Plus, how many NOS cases?
Most are likely used,
and would be happy for a couple tenths over on the OD to help crush.

Having them a bit under, like the Mahles,
combined with a used case.... :(
Low Oil Pressure City, sweetheart...

So cautiously optimistic...

From the 3 sets I have on the shelf, I can't even make one set to put in an engine.

Out of round and incorrect crush are the main probs. Maybe they saw what a market
there is and started making them again for some quick Holiday cash!
;)

BUYER BEWARE!

From what I have heard, not that it will shut up the people that have no idea what they are talking about, a company that I have no association too what so ever, had put up the money for the tooling for the Type lV main bearings since the manufacturer has not made the Type lV bearings for some time, this company now has exclusive rights to said main bearings from the manufacturer.

Maybe they (silverline) think they've spend money. There will be returns and stock that never will be sold. So they'll loose money with their jump in the water.

If the machine shops will be organized an order for good bearings could be placed. But they're all single actors..

Exclusive righs from which manufacturer? Mahle, KS, Metal Leve? Why would Silverline have to make tooling if they are given the rights, situations like that the previous maker passes the tooling on or sells the tooling to the new maker.

Right now somebody needs to get a set and do some serious measurements.

On another note the "Exclusive Rights" if that is what Silverline is trying to use to draw in business is only hype, any bearing manufacturer can tool up and make bearings for any engine they desire without "Exclusive Rights" or even permission, hence the reason there is an aftermarket supply of parts.

Considering they are not around like they used to be.. I'm glad to hear they are coming back. You will not hear me complain about a company stepping up and doing something / anything about this problem.

No, you misunderstand, a company I believe is here in California has sought out Silverline who is located in Mexico and has paid for the tooling for Silverline to produce the Type lV main bearings again, I don't know if it's new tooling old tooling it's what ever it is and this company here in California now has the exclusive rights to the Silverline Type lV main bearings. So that means no one else can buy the Type lV main bearings from Silverline.

And the New Silverline bearings I checked out tues were being packed to ship to Europe, cause there are no STD bearings in the UK and none in France, and the people here in the US that still have some left are trying to sell them for $250 to $300, or they were trying, no one will spend that kind of money now.

And this company here in CA that you think will loose money with their jump in the water, something was said about them currently having orders for over 500 sets of std mains, and over sizes will be available also in the future.

EDIT
Look, I have 5 sets of NOS Type lV main bearings (2 sets KS, 2 sets Mahle and 1 setr Karl Schmidt) and 2 good used sets (KS), my 2633 I recently built was with a used set, I have more than enough for my personal builds for the next couple of years. I don't need any Fuchin bearings.
